They've brought us 4 rings, but lately they seem to have turned into penny-pinchers who are more interested in their FSG empire and in keeping the Red Sox books balanced regardless of losing seasons. Would you like to see them sell? I'm about at the point where I wouldn't be displeased to hear some rumors about a sale. Obviously it all depends who the prospective buyers are. But it really seems like Henry and Werner don't care that much about the Sox any more.

Some post mortem on Yamamoto: -It seems that "the fix was in" to a certain extent in that he wanted to play for the Dodgers from the start. He took the Mets offer of 12/325 to LA, they matched it, and the Mets weren't given a chance to increase their offer. -Article in the Boston Herald about the Sox and Yamamoto suggests they were willing to exceed what they paid Price and that was about it. Which would leave them roughly $100 million short.

Signed Eovaldi and Pearce. But that was a team that had won 108 games and was only losing Kimbrel and Kelly, and was also going to be over the tax threshold for the second year. A little different from what we're seeing right now. -

Yoshida is, or should be, a DH. And DH's are one position that aren't seeing the big contracts as much. JD Martinez had another decent season and there's no rush to sign him.

Didn't Breslow already say something about preferring not to have a full time DH? If that's the case Yoshida will be back in LF.

No. My dog is still looking for the man who shot his paw. I don't know why you like Yoshida at that price. Can't field, slow as molasses, 15 HR and 72 RBI, .736 road OPS. It was a bad signing. They should have used that kind of money on pitching. It was more evidence of Bloom's scattershot, incoherent roster construction.

It all comes down to the meanings of words. What does "worth" mean? The Red Sox thought Castillo was worth 73 million at the time. Last year they thought Yoshida was worth 105 million. Many disagreed, and those that disagreed appear to have been right.

But even on this forum I think there's a sense that Breslow is just the new patsy, and it's ownership that is sticking it to us.

Yes and no. If they had their Winter Weekend right now, Brez would get his first taste of abuse from the fans.

I disagree in principle. The fact someone paid X for something doesn't mean it's "worth" that much. The baseball free agent market can be an irrational market. Some signings are bargains (like Senga in 2022), and some are irrational overpays (like Bogaerts in 2022). Rusney Castillo was not "worth" 73 million because he was paid that much. Bad scouting and bad decision-making were the reasons.

The Sox front office has become a joke. It's no wonder so many people didn't want to interview for the CBO position.

We have no idea what they offered Moto. -
But as Bellhorn keeps saying, some starting pitchers have been available on thoroughly reasonable deals the last 3 offseasons, and the Sox have been on the sidelines for those too.
