    The teams are not equal in value. It's not a level playing field. That's just reality.

    If Cohen sells the team with a pile of debt on the books it has to reduce the price. At least that's how it works with normal businesses. I don't see how the Mets can rack up heavy losses without it affecting Cohen.

    It's the fans who pay the bills and make John Henry's franchise worth $4.5 billion. I think they do have the right to complain when they're seeing inferior teams put on the field, while ticket prices go up and Henry keeps getting richer. Henry deserves the plaudits for the 4 rings, but the fans owe him nothing at this point.

    And he owns the team. So who repays the loans?

    We can't expect any owners to dig into their own pockets to cover their team's losses. Although Steve Cohen is apparently doing it. I think it's reasonable to expect the third most valuable team, the Red Sox, to have the third highest payroll. They did follow that credo for many years. 2019 seems like the turning point.

    Who knows? Glasnow is only for one year, they've had a lot of losses in their rotation, and they are obviously not freaked out about paying luxury tax...

    Really? What are the gross annual revenues of the A's, Rays, Pirates etc.?

    I agree. But maybe Henry thinks Red Sox fans just aren't very bright. His market value is still thriving after 6 sub-.500 teams in 12 years and the jettisoning of Mookie Betts, so maybe anything seems possible to him now.

    Gray, ERod and Lugo were all on our list of secondary acquisitions. That list is shrinking, and we still haven't made the primary acquisition.

    Outbidding Cohen, Steinbrenner and the rest seems like a pipe dream to me. Maybe if they had done something else by now to demonstrate they weren't lying about being aggressive, I'd feel differently.

    If you're Moto and his team and you take a close look at the Red Sox and what's been going on with them, you're probably going to question how committed to winning they really are.

    Burnes seems like the best trade target, but it's only one guaranteed year. He has great numbers but maybe worth nothing they regressed some from 2021 to 2022 and from 2022 to 2023.

    They have to do something significant about the rotation this offseason, or it's going to be another debacle for this front office. It'll be shocking. But what if they've miscalculated and they end up not signing Moto, Snell or Montgomery? Even if they do make a big trade, people are going to be scratching their heads.
