I submit that he should be referred to as Logan Allen II.
Logan Allen I pitched for Cleveland in 2022.
Logan Allen II pitched for Cleveland in 2023.
That is some crazy randomness.
My answer to the why is:
1) The Red Sox adhere closely to this strategy.
2) The Red Sox have s***** pitching and are constantly forced to go outside the organization to get pitching.
3) These two facts may be related.
Montgomery is in play, sure, but he'll also likely be in play for most of the teams that lose out on Moto. That means inflation. That means he might not even be a smart choice any more.
But maybe I'm just suffering from a bad case of negative confirmation bias...
Cohen has already set the precedent with his 2023 spree. He's worth 20 bill and he's like a big crazy kid with his team. If it comes down to an EBay situation, no one is going to top him.
It's just too easy to see a scenario here where the Sox lose out on Moto, pass on Snell because of the injury risks, and find Montgomery has gotten too expensive.
Then tell the fans they tried their hardest, but things just didn't fall their way.
