  1. Red Sox with Reported Interest in Teoscar Hernandez.
  2. Signed Eovaldi and Pearce. But that was a team that had won 108 games and was only losing Kimbrel and Kelly, and was also going to be over the tax threshold for the second year. A little different from what we're seeing right now.
  3. Last Sox offseason was busy compared to this one. Who'da thunk it?
  4. Red Sox front office is catatonic, frozen in place, as if in a Twilight Zone episode.
  5. Yoshida is, or should be, a DH. And DH's are one position that aren't seeing the big contracts as much. JD Martinez had another decent season and there's no rush to sign him.
  6. Didn't Breslow already say something about preferring not to have a full time DH? If that's the case Yoshida will be back in LF.
  7. No. My dog is still looking for the man who shot his paw. I don't know why you like Yoshida at that price. Can't field, slow as molasses, 15 HR and 72 RBI, .736 road OPS. It was a bad signing. They should have used that kind of money on pitching. It was more evidence of Bloom's scattershot, incoherent roster construction.
  8. mvp says the Sox are out on Montgomery and Snell.
  9. Yep, right where JH and Werner want him. That's what he's paid for.
  10. It all comes down to the meanings of words. What does "worth" mean? The Red Sox thought Castillo was worth 73 million at the time. Last year they thought Yoshida was worth 105 million. Many disagreed, and those that disagreed appear to have been right.
  11. But even on this forum I think there's a sense that Breslow is just the new patsy, and it's ownership that is sticking it to us.
  12. I'm sure we'll get the full details on their offer to Moto... right after we get the full details on their offer to Mookie.
  13. Yes and no. If they had their Winter Weekend right now, Brez would get his first taste of abuse from the fans.
  14. I disagree in principle. The fact someone paid X for something doesn't mean it's "worth" that much. The baseball free agent market can be an irrational market. Some signings are bargains (like Senga in 2022), and some are irrational overpays (like Bogaerts in 2022). Rusney Castillo was not "worth" 73 million because he was paid that much. Bad scouting and bad decision-making were the reasons.
  15. The Sox front office has become a joke. It's no wonder so many people didn't want to interview for the CBO position.
  16. Giolito has absolutely sucked the last 2 seasons. Wacha has been much better than Giolito. I'll puke if they sign Giolito.
  17. That was the Marino Pepen rumor that was swiftly debunked.
  18. We have no idea what they offered Moto.
  19. But as Bellhorn keeps saying, some starting pitchers have been available on thoroughly reasonable deals the last 3 offseasons, and the Sox have been on the sidelines for those too.
  20. Is there any indication we offered Moto $300M?
  21. They were never in the picture to begin with.
  22. As sad as it is, I think Montgomery is now a pipe dream. He's going to get paid way too much.
  23. It all matters IMHO.
  24. Mid-market teams like the Sox don't duke it out with teams like the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers.
  25. And the total cost of those two was $155 million, which is now considerably less than what Montgomery is expected to get. From here on I'm just going to have to assume they are a bunch of stupid bozos unless they somehow prove they aren't.
