Gun to my head, I say yes, they did lie or mislead him about the payroll. He's got a good paycheck, I'm sure. Nice roster? If you call a roster that's projected to be about .500 but could easily be under again, sure. Stars on the way? We hope.

Just one correction: the $3 billion is actually coming from "Strategic Sports Group", a consortium that includes Fenway Sports Group and numerous other investors including Steve Cohen. But I've come around to much the same view as you, that the Red Sox are not benefiting from being part of this group, but quite the opposite, they're being damaged by it.

The crazy thing is, Hugh, that on Winter Weekend Kennedy said they do have a set budget number, and Werner said that they don't. Kennedy: “We do have a set budget that we don’t talk about publicly, as to not tip our hand to our competitors. Werner: “In the end, we don’t have a line in terms of our payroll that we look at as much as trusting that Craig (Breslow) is going to deliver on his assurance that we’re going to be competitive.”

I think all most hoped for was from 78 to 88ish, not 98ish.
