  1. I tend to agree. If you look at Buehrle's K rate you'd think the guy must have been a bum. Buehrle seemed like one of those guys hitters made "comfortable outs" against, to use a term I always liked.
  2. They seriously do.
  3. Jeez, wickedly original comebacks to that by notin and now you.
  4. What the heck is frontline pitching? That's even vaguer than "ace".
  5. Giolito is not a guy that anything is being built around either. Like you said, we might only have him for 4 months.
  6. Don't worry, I'm not shooting any messengers. I'm storming the Bastille in person.
  7. Trying to accomplish two separate things, I would surmise. Cut payroll by $10 mill, and get a prospect. We still have no clue what sort of budget Henry has given Breslow, because Breslow still hasn't shown his hole card, so to speak. I'm starting to think they need to put some time limits on the baseball free agent season, because this one has been like slow torture.
  8. We might as well just have one big thread here anyway LOL
  9. This isn't really about the money, though, it's about the 2024 baseball team. You can understand people questioning why you're trading Sale for a prospect when the rotation is the worst part of the team. Why did they do it, to clear payroll for a signing, or just to cut payroll.
  10. So either the bigger remaining free agents are asking for too much, or teams aren't offering enough, I guess.
  11. Yeah, like I say, as far as 2024 is concerned, this trade can only make sense if they acquire a good starter.
  12. I don't see how that contradicts my statement. We hope they're going to do that, but do we don't know. It looks like Snell is probably going to the Yankees. So we're down to Montgomery or a trade. I wish I could trust that they're not going to let us down, but we've been here before, like last year and the year before.
  13. That's kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? We'll make sure we suck so we won't have to even worry about the potential impact of a move like this.
  14. So, as of January 4, the Red Sox still haven't done anything to dispel the notion that they're punting again.
  15. Obviously that part is a dice roll. But I'll call this a questionable move on Opening Day if there are no further upgrades.
  16. I would say that if we don't add more than Giolito to our rotation, this deal becomes questionable, in terms of whether the team is actually trying to win or not.
  17. I'm not fixated, I'm really not. The sad thing is that mediocre pitchers would improve the 2024 Red Sox rotation as it's currently constituted.
  18. Reasons the Sox traded him: 1) Chris's health is always in jeopardy. 2) They got a cheap second baseman with some potential in return. 3) They saved $10 million. If Sale pitches something like the old Sale in 2024 this will indeed look questionable, so you could say Breslow rolled the dice.
  19. It's not hard to figure why this deal makes senses for the Braves. Sale looked healthy and effective his last few starts of 2023. Some of that high end potential is still there. So why not risk $20 mill or so on a guy who might help you in the playoffs for the next 2 years? They already said they're going to manage him pretty carefully in the regular season.
  20. The Red Sox are here to give guys like him the opportunity to rebuild their value. We're a charity of sorts.
  21. It's yet another daft argument here on Talksox, with Dipre and mvp going old school on Wacha's innings and ignoring all else. And I know you, like me, were interested in Wacha AS A SUPPLEMENTARY PIECE ONLY. We really need some actual encouraging Red Sox news.
  22. Just think of BTV as Big Tony Vincenzo. Tony's job is much like that of the guys who set the NFL point spreads.
  23. So Wacha was actually in the top half. The game has changed.
  24. Devers missed games due to injuries in 2022 and 2023.
  25. There's no such thing. Devers played 156 in 2019 and 156 in 2021. Ergo, it's 6 games.
