  1. Regardless, the Red Sox won the trade because of Grissom, according to BTV.
  2. This offseason has been pretty f'king weird in general. Crickets/Ohtani/Crickets/Yamamoto/Crickets. I smell a Scott Boras outburst somewhere in the near future.
  3. Monty is last man standing.
  4. The 4.43 FIP was the number with the White Sox. For the full season it was 5.27.
  5. While with Giolito, we're in the position of hoping it was his divorce that resulted in him being used for batting practice the last 2 months of 2023 and that he's all over that now.
  6. Yeah, this thread can't go anywhere good.
  7. But the joke's on us, because John just keeps getting richer off the Sox while putting crappy teams on the field.
  8. Supposedly we're about $40 M under the first tax threshold as it is. Payroll room should not be an impediment to signing Monty or Snell. "The price is too high" certainly could be, of course.
  9. Giolito's numbers are all over the place. There's no way anyone can predict what he'll do in 2024.
  10. Pretty sure he meant Yoshida.
  11. Yeah, JH probably had tears rolling down his face. But when Brez told him he could recover about $10M of it by trading Sale, John brightened up again.
  12. Maybe that's why they've decided to not even try.
  13. But since 2024 isn't the be-all and end-all, there's not much point in that...
  14. I'm guessing Werner deeply regrets that choice of words now. What he said was "full throttle in every area" but of course those two words sounded like "we're spending, baby" to just about everyone.
  15. Yeah, still not trusting our owners and front office very much. This quasi-competing-while-we-rebuild theme gives them an excellent excuse to keep the payroll down and the profit up for one more year at least. They're still trying to get the hang of the messaging part.
  16. Or if the Red Sox actually acquired someone interesting for 2024...
  17. He was shortly after we traded him.
  18. The argument is that Henry refused to pay market value for the Hall of Famer.
  19. So maybe the offer to Betts was around the same, 265 mill. As long as we're idly speculating and all.
  20. Just to be clear, for me this is not about siding with the players. I'm not shedding any tears for Lester, Betts and Bogaerts. They got paid handsomely. It's about siding with the fans.
  21. But it'll look smart if he pitches well, we suck otherwise and we trade him for something at the deadline...yahoo!
  22. As mentioned, we have info on extension offers to Lester, Betts and Bogaerts.
  23. So if he pitches well we might only have him for 4 months LOL
  24. It's way premature though. Plus, we could say the same about the Verdugo and Urias trades if you want to look at each move that way. We won't be able to evaluate until we know the payroll for 2024. If the 2024 payroll is $15 mill below the first tax threshold, I think we'll all have good reason to howl.
  25. With both Lester and Bogaerts they eventually made massive increases from their ridiculous first offers, and if they had made those offers in the first place they likely would have retained the players. This is why I say there's been a pattern of behavior.
