The offseason has become an excruciatingly long, boring, frustrating, losing game.
The Sox executive hitters have struck out 15 times already. But they still have a few innings left to pull it out.
Fenway has a very restless atmosphere.
Wins and losses meant more back when guys were routinely throwing complete games.
Now 6 innings is about as much as you can expect.
So not only does the starting pitcher need to leave a game with a lead, the bullpen has to retain that lead.
There are a ton of examples now of starters whose W-L records don't match their other numbers.
Actually the guy no one is talking about much is Cora. He said stuff that made him sound fed up with the state of the roster and hungry for serious improvements.
No it isn't. And when I first heard about the trade I thought the $10 mill or so they freed up would be put toward a free agent signing. Because we've heard numerous times about them needing to shed payroll before spending.
And of course since then they've done nothing.
This offseason might end up OK, but to date it's been mostly frustration, angst and confusion for Sox fans. At least the ones who actually care about the 2024 season.
I don't believe the only hired to trade Betts part.
But I don't think the sacrificial lamb part can be ruled out.
If anything the approach this offseason seems even more Bloom-like than Bloom.
"Bid with the market rather than beyond it"?
Some might say that's just another way of saying they never have the top bid.
Actually, I don't know WTF "bid with the market" means in the context of baseball free agents. It's gibberish.
