    Nobody said much of anything about Devers after he left. Actually once Casas got hurt we had kind of a quiet team. Nobody very quotable.

    In my opinion if you win multiple championships that kind of exempts you from being a bad teammate. If the objective is to win rings how can Mike Jordan be a bad teammate? Jordan's teammates made a lot more money because of him and they have rings. Maybe an unlikeable teammate, but that's a different thing.

    Of course, but Sasaki was the closer in Game 1, getting it done on 11 pitches, and Treinen didn't pitch in Game 1, and there was a day off in between games, so it seemed odd Treinen would be the closer in Game 2 unless there was a health issue with Sasaki, but Sasaki came in to close it anyway. Maybe it was some sort of matchup deal.

    Is Sasaki pitching hurt or something? I was puzzled by the sequencing last night.

    They did make the playoffs, which I think most of us figured was a reasonable goal for 2025. Also FWIW one of the rumors about DD being fired by Henry was that Dave was not communicating well with the rest of the front office.

    But he would only be non-compliant if he was asked to play 2B and refused.

    Cora was trying to keep Raffy half-happy, moving him to DH but not to 1B. Did Cora play it right and Breslow screw it up? Honestly I have no idea. But I think in the final analysis they did the right thing trading him. Having an unhappy player you owe close to $300 million is usually a problem.

    But they're 4 and 0. The pen looks shaky but may be surmountable when they have so much else going. I hope the Brewers are up to the task, I'd rather not see the Dodgers hoisting it again.

    Refsnyder ain't retiring. This is gonna be like the Who's 1982 "farewell concert". Pete and Roger are still playing live in 2025.

    Recent Philly teams have been postseason Phlops. Maybe that word will attract some attention to this thread.

    Chapman and Whitlock were huge reasons the team won 89 games. Fantastic seasons for both. Exceeded everyone's expectations, really.

    Devers showed he wasn't a team player. It was for the best anyway.

    I certainly agree about the counting stat part, but Duran's durability the last 2 years has been a plus. He's been the one guy they were able to pencil in every day.

    It's skewed, but he still led Sox position players in 2025 fWAR at 3.9 (Rafaela 3.8) and was 2nd in bWAR at 4.6 to Rafaela's 4.8.

    At the end of the day, averaging 4.5 WAR per season over the last 2.5 seasons is pretty good. Either that or we might as well chuck WAR, I guess.

    I'm not criticizing what you're saying. I get it, in close games any little physical or mental blunder can make the difference. And when you lose those things get magnified bigly.

    Agreed, but Duran led the Red Sox in extra base hits, and by a lot. He had 70 and the next best was 54. He was not the problem with the offense.

    No, but they needed to get a bat after they traded him. Like I said in the other thread, 2 egregious errors by Craig - that one and trading Priester for prospects.

    What about the advanced defensive stats, how did we end up there?

    The errors hurt but I'm not really buying that they're the reason we're out. Because it's baseball and therefore you can often find multiple explanations. We scored 6 runs in 3 games - our offense was feeble without Anthony. And Bello's crappy start didn't help. And even if we did win this series, we were in pretty bad shape without Anthony and Giolito. We were a pretty good team but we were THIN. Losing a guy like Anthony is crushing when you're that thin.
