  1. The third catcher is just emergency insurance, it enables Cora to do something like use Narvaez as a pinch-hitter - like he did yesterday, very successfully I might add. Kelly is a mystery. Andrew Bailey must think there's something there he can fix.
  2. If they're going to give up on him now they might as well release him. We all know he might start hitting. Why wouldn't he? He hit righties very well in 2023 and 2024. He's healthy. He's just rusty. Look at how Story shook off the rust after people were giving up on him. I think you have to give him a couple more weeks. That's just playing the percentages.
  3. We're all just speculating. But Breslow has shown he's a pretty decisive guy IMHO. In any case it's only common sense to give Yoshida a fair shot.
  4. I'm 100% certain that Yoshida's playing time is as much a Breslow decision as a Cora decision. They're obviously giving him a lot of time to get the rust off. Just as obviously if he doesn't start hitting soon he's in jeopardy of bad things like being left off the playoff roster if we get there.
  5. Yeah, really. I'm pretty glad they didn't trade Duran, personally, especially with Abreu on the shelf. Depth is not such a bad thing.
  6. The good news is that Anthony's walk rate is about half of his K rate.
  7. He also had the game-deciding 3 run homer in the first game of the Orioles series, so 2 huge hits in 7 games.
  8. Along with 27 saves he has 4 wins, 4 holds and a number of games he kept tied that the Sox won.
  9. Bunting for hits is great. It really does seem like a rarity now.
  10. You're not Henry and it's extremely doubtful that's the way he's thinking. He's got a quick trigger finger but he has given every CBO 4 years, at least.
  11. When you're in a playoff race, you can call every loss a missed opportunity, really. The fickle finger of Randomness is never far away in this crazy game. We take 7 of 8 from the Yanks and Orioles on the road and then lose 2 to Pittsburgh at home.
  12. I'll have to check the video again but I think Bill Mueller showed bunt on the pitch right before the biggest RBI in franchise history.
  13. I think they'll bring him back one way or another. They're on a roll of good moves with retaining the ones that need to be retained.
  14. Great sacrifice bunts in Red Sox history - anybody remember any?
  15. Fortunately your input on Breslow 's job is not a factor.
  16. Spectacular news.
  17. And they need late inning relievers, and I assume Bailey thinks he can help him.
  18. Red Sox are #9 in OPS+ Red Sox are #5 in ERA+ So yeah, the pitching has been better than the offense, especially lately. But there isn't a vast gulf between the two. It's just really hard to score runs against major league pitchers. You score most of your runs against pitchers who don't have their best stuff that day or who just aren't very good and are in there to eat innings. The game is dominated by pitching.
  19. It's also about time to run into a crappy starting pitcher. 😄
  20. Well, not if you're rooting for the pitchers.
  21. Unfortunate. I had no problem with the signing and I'm sure Buehler gave it everything he had, but his arm is not what it was after all the surgeries.
  22. In MLB all offenses are inconsistent. Hey, maybe that's because they face different pitchers every game!
  23. Mustaches usually look stupid on baseball players IMHO. Fingers's was an exception.
