But is it really that bad of a team? All depends how they're playin', right? They're playing decent ball right now and without Ellsbury, Crawford, Youkilis, Bailey and Melancon, and with Gonzo hitting like a chump.
The new technology that logs balls and strikes is really making the home plate umps look bad. It's almost funny that one of the places you can get this information is right on MLB's very own Gameday.
It's a pathetic situation, really. Umps are making blatantly bad calls that affect games, the fact that the calls are wrong is right there in everyone's face, and nothing is done about it. Selig certainly has no plans to ever address it.
Yep, it's officially time to wonder if Gonzo's power is history. 12 homers in 107 games since the All-Star Break. And 5 of those came in a 3-game series in Texas. Take that out and you've got 7 little longballs in 104 games. Yeee-ikes.
And of course it can't be said often enough-letting a $154 million, coming off shoulder surgery A-Gon take part in the HR Derby was one of the colossal idiot moves.

Note to Fred and all Talksox posters: please review to see if your post went up twice and if it did, delete the second one. There's some little glitch going on with the posting.
I think it's a tough position for the FO. I like WMB a lot, you'd have to be crazy not to. But there's a good possibility the kid's numbers are going to cool off or even slump. He hit 409/435/1000 in his first 5games. He's hit 214/267/357 in his last 7 games. Pitchers adapt quickly.
For 'runs produced', which is a stat that's used sometimes, though obviously a pretty raw one, you just add runs scored and RBI together and subtract HR's.
I don't have any issues with Salty's offense. It's more than adequate for a catcher and he shows signs of getting better with the stick. It's his defence that's the crucial factor.
Beckett was the same ******* in 2007 but he was lights-out in the postseason, which on top of his 2003 World Series performance, earned him a reputation as a Schilling-type Mister Clutch.
Bad umpiring struck again in the Rays-Jays game. Brett Lawrie got called out on strikes in the ninth, two of the pitches were clearly well outside the strike zone. Lawrie and John Farrell both got ejected, with justification. You can check out the strike calls on MLB.Gameday. Crazy bad calls.
I don't think Red Sox forum posters have to be divided up into the optimist party and the pessimist party but it sure seems to happen a lot. The conflict between the two sides can take on a life of its own, and not usually a good one.
