  1. True. I was sort of hoping they'd get 99 wins which would have tied the 1978 team. But it doesn't matter.
  2. Selig has made a series of gimmicky moves that have probably been good for the bottom line but bad for the actual competition.
  3. A 3-way wild card tie would be hilarious. Pretty unlikely though. I hope the Rays and Rangers have to play off at least.
  4. This scheduling this year has really produced some ridiculous results. It doesn't matter any more, but the Yankees finishing against Houston and Detroit against the Marlins? What ********.
  5. Nava 4 for 4 off lefties tonight.
  6. Lester off the hook.
  7. I believe you mean Cleveland.
  8. Ha ha ha...the Rays are losing 7-1 in the 5th. They are on their 4th pitcher already and every one of them has stunk. Maddon must be s***ing himself.
  9. Right. For example, last I heard, 'K machine' Napoli was leading the majors in pitches per AB. Some of this stuff may not even be measurable in any satisfactory way. I hope it all can't be measured, actually.
  10. It's all situational, right? A K with one out and a runner on third is terrible performance. A K with 2 outs and nobody on is no different from a groundout.
  11. Markakis is thinking 'WTF was that, a rising cut fastball...Jesus.'
  12. Stephen Drew - we're gonna miss that guy next year.
  13. Dear Mr. Feldman: We trust you are enjoying this evening's touching up of your Earned Run Average. Sincerely The Red Sox
  14. Dojji should get extra points for Nava though. Nava should cancel out at least 2 of Dojji's bad picks.
  15. So let's say Middlebrooks does turn out to be a better-fielding Mark Reynolds. It's really not so bad, a guy like that can be a strong asset. Right now having a guy like this hitting at the bottom of the order is like having a secret nuke.
  16. Make Feldman a felled man tonight.
  17. The comparison was to Ken Senior.
  18. His steal #s this year are surprisingly bad.
  19. Agreed. This was strictly an offensive comparison.
  20. FWIW, a poster on the Globe forum has been drawing comparisons between WMB and Mark Reynolds. At first that sounds a little outrageous, but the more you look at it, it's not that far-fetched. The main differences - Reynolds strikes out more, but also walks a lot more. He's more of a TTO hitter I guess. But in terms of OPS, streakiness and productivity, the comparison might be valid. Time will tell.
