  1. Do you think the final offer of 135 million to Lester and the personal visit by Henry were just for show? (I'm not sure what to think about it.)
  2. In all fairness, I think it was 700hitter who initiated the whole 'clogging' thing. And I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who started seeing shoes.
  3. I've been reading a lot of novels lately and some very long ones too. But when it comes to editorial commentaries on things like baseball, economy is one of the principles of good writing.
  4. Not yet, but I will.
  5. As far as the jungster's long posts are concerned, my take is this: a) it's all just words on my computer screen; anything longer than 2 short paragraphs and I'm scrollin' right past it.
  6. Henry gave the go ahead for Price and Kimbrel because he was willing to have the highest payroll in team history and pay a fairly large chunk of luxury tax.
  7. I'm not suggesting that Henry is meddling. I'm suggesting that he and Dombrowski are on the same page about making moves like benching Panda and Castillo.
  8. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
  9. Those thank yous to Ben will have to wait about 6 months.
  10. But Henry knew Dombrowski's approach when he hired him, and obviously it was what he wanted.
  11. I think he's taking the approach Henry wanted him to.
  12. For better or worse, this team is anxious to get off to a good start, to put it mildly.
  13. When you evaluate the long term health of the franchise part, I think you also have to factor in the long term contracts on the books.
  14. Oh sure. I'm just getting kind of a bad vibe, and frankly I think it's mostly because of Farrell and his shaky status.
  15. Oh, that part is simple. But the question is how do baseball salaries keep going up and up into the stratosphere when the American economy in general has been flat for years.
  16. I know spring training games don't mean much, but this year seems to have been especially dreary for Sox fans. Not much to cheer about.
  17. Holt and Young are the platoon. Castillo is in limbo.
  18. Farrell is a goner.
  19. I think the relationship between the increases is more of a back and forth than you're suggesting. Many businesses bump their prices because they see their expenses going up and they hope the customers won't revolt. The real question, though, is how baseball revenue and expenses can continue to increase at a rate far in excess of the growth of the economy in general. It suggests an irrational market. And that's what it has become for the average citizen - a very irrational economic decision to take your family to a game.
  20. Pro sports has reached the point where for the average citizen the ticket and concession prices are another form of 'idiot tax' like legal gambling. If you're stupid enough to throw away that much money it's on you. If you're rich, of course, it's no big deal.
  21. The Sox are a business and perfectly entitled to make money, that's for sure. If going to a game at Fenway is too expensive for a middle-class family that's kind of sad. Players salaries have spiraled into never-never land and its the fans who have to foot the bill somehow.
  22. We'd sort of be taken out behind the woodshed on that deal, don't you think?
  23. The Red Sox have already demonstrated that they're willing to play Shaw over Panda. There's simply no reason to be concerned about Sam Travis's progress being blocked. Especially when he hasn't even played AAA ball yet.
  24. I never said anything about exonerating Ben for those contracts. Once again you read things that aren't there at all.
  25. For the reasons UserName cited, (Sam) Travis is not blocked.
