  1. If they really want EE, Morales, or Beltran, they won't lose out.
  2. The 'curse hype'? Haha...yeah, I guess now that we've won it 3 times we can downplay the importance of these things.
  3. Yeah, but Braun really crossed the line. In sleazeball behavior he's maybe one notch below A-Rod, if that.
  4. I don't get the point of throwing out trade proposals you don't like that much yourself.
  5. I'm thinking maybe 8 years/180 million.
  6. Even setting aside his achievements with the Red Sox, what Theo Epstein just did with the Cubs franchise is awe-inspiring. In 5 years he delivered a World Series champion and a team that is well set up to take a run at more titles over the next few years. And he almost made it look easy.
  7. Why would you want to give up 5 young players, including 3 starting pitchers and a catcher, for a well-paid DH and a setup guy? I think I'd rather sign EE than do this.
  8. Those numbers are too much, I certainly agree.
  9. It's good enough for me. I'm an analytical person, but some things don't need to be analyzed that much.
  10. You're right, the recency effect can be powerful. But breaking 2 droughts totaling almost 2 centuries is an achievement for which you can't find anything remotely comparable.
  11. Or does this suggest that MLB teams value defense more than offense at the position? The Sox certainly seemed in a hurry to demote Swihart and then move him to the outfield.
  12. OK - do you have a better comp for Swihart than harmony's Salty comp?
  13. I really don't know about the Salty after 2009 thing...nor do I think it matters that much. 2017 is the year for Swihart to show what he's got.
  14. With Ortiz gone, Mookie is the franchise. They really need to lock him up before he's a free man.
  15. If we could get him back really cheap, sure.
  16. I say Swihart's trade value is low right now based on 3 things: 1) The Sox demonstrated serious doubts about his defensive abilities as a catcher by demoting him quickly and then moving him to the outfield. 2) He hasn't shown much as a hitter at the MLB level yet. Decent BA but very little power. 3) Injury.
  17. I don't think he did a terrible job this year. Some bad luck with Smith and Kimbrel underperformed. Ziegler was a solid pickup.
  18. Mildly surprised if it's true that there's no interest in bringing Koji back. After he came off the DL he pitched 13 scoreless, 2013-caliber innings. Durability is obviously a concern. An incentive-laden deal would seem to make sense. I'm guessing that Koji wants to pitch again in 2017 especially the way he looked at the end of the year.
  19. Dull presentation aside, I think harmony's numbers support the position that Swihart's trade value isn't very high at the moment. What he does this year could change all that.
  20. No, charges dropped, MLB gave him a 30 day suspension, done deal.
  21. Papi was an incredible bargain, I'm just starting to realize that. His total salaries with the Red Sox over 14 years were about 160 million. The 4 years is what makes EE's projection somewhat reasonable. He's been a 4 WAR player 5 years running despite huge negative defensive numbers. I'm not saying it'll happen. DD has already signaled it probably won't, I guess.
  22. 4/92 for EE actually seems fairly reasonable by today's standards.
