  1. I sure would love to see Ortiz as hitting coach next year.
  2. A quick review of the facts on Bogey: In 2016 he had an .802 OPS with 21 homers. In 2017 he had an .826 OPS as of the end of June. On July 6 he got hit by a pitch. (Which may have led to a lingering injury that's still affecting him.) On July 20 he was dropped in the order.
  3. With Bogaerts, it looks like injuries have seriously hampered him. Farrell tried to be patient and give him every opportunity, but now he's being benched with increasing frequency.
  4. My question is simply this - how can the manager be responsible for all the declines? With Mookie Betts, we know he's being pitched to differently this year. Betts has talked about all the sliders he's seeing and how he's trying to adjust his approach.
  5. Put your faith in modern medicine. TJ surgery has done wonders. Just look at Lackey for example.
  6. With regard to the massive underperformance part, Farrell was also the manager the previous 4 years. How did his management of their hitting get so bad this year? Seriously, though, it's a total enigma why so many guys have numbers down this year. The only things we can point to as fact are the absence of Ortiz and the failure to add a power bat to somewhat compensate for that loss.
  7. Post of the night.
  8. I think you're looking at his season with homer glasses. He has had a lot of 'uncharacteristic' outings this year, including his most recent one.
  9. No doubt. Maybe instead of TJ surgery, they should call it TMS surgery - Too Many Sliders surgery.
  10. Three headed monster - Gray, Severino and who?
  11. Yeah, Votto really has the Reds focused the last few years. Just look at their record. Seriously, what makes you think he's a huge clubhouse leader?
  12. Still on the topic of mental blunders, I can remember reading about some teams where the players had their own 'kangaroo court' where anyone would made such a blunder would take some grief and possibly be hit with a modest fine. I think maybe Don Baylor was a kangaroo court judge. I strongly suspect the 2017 Sox have no such thing but maybe they should.
  13. Your numbers in red basically suggest we've always had the wrong guy hitting cleanup. But the overall numbers show we haven't really had anyone with very strong cleanup hitter numbers.
  14. I think Betts will figure it out with all the sliders away. I think he's a special player.
  15. Here are some base-stealing stats: MLB averages 74 steals 27 caught stealing 73.3% success rate Red Sox 99 steals (5th in MLB) 29 caught stealing 77.3% success rate
  16. Also very reasonable.
  17. Very reasonable assessment.
  18. Go Rangers.
  19. JBJ with a routine catch to end it!
  20. Reed brought the scoop.
  21. Nice night for Raffy.
  22. Rough one for Tanaka tonight.
  23. Talksox members are working on it. Nothing final yet.
  24. We'll never know for sure unless one of the principals airs the laundry. I think Larry was probably heavily involved, but it's just a guess.
