  1. 'Pampering' - now there's a word that clearly implies treating them like babies. I get a lot of this old school stuff, I really do. But the high frequency of injuries to pitchers is a fact. Torn ligaments are a fact. It's understandable that teams would like to avoid them. And nobody really knows exactly why the incidence of TJ surgery-inducing injuries is so high now. There are a lot of theories, as with many things.
  2. Can't argue with any of that. Just another $22 million sandwich for the team to swallow.
  3. What was really strange about Hanley's contract was that a lot of people were expecting him to get even more.
  4. Bob Gibson and Nolan Ryan were amazing physical specimens. Generally speaking though, pitching wreaks a lot of damage on the human arm.
  5. Here's why I hate that particular kind of option. First of all, because Hanley is sucking we're all grumbling about the prospect of him reaching the number and us getting stuck with him for another year at 22 mill. Perfectly understandable. Second, these things have created some controversy before. Maybe Hanley is having a decent year but the team seems to be trying to cut back on his time to not hit the number. Hanley's agent complains about it, yada yada yada...not a good thing in any way.
  6. We actually did fairly well against Bauer last night but we were seriously outgunned.
  7. I hate that kind of vesting option in a contract.
  8. He's having a s*** season, no doubt about that. As I've said before, the day we signed Pablo and Hanley was a very bad day for the franchise. $41 million a year for virtually zero net production.
  9. It sure doesn't look good when you drill a guy in the head on your first pitch of a game with previous beanballs. We'll never know what Betances was thinking of course. It'll be interesting to see if he gets suspended.
  10. It certainly seems like an example of the 'human element'. Sale can't be in a good frame of mind when he faces this team knowing the history. Very concerning to say the least.
  11. I've always used 15 pitches per inning as a benchmark. I think that's pretty close to average. That's 90 pitches in 6 innings. But throwing 100 pitches in 6 innings is not crazy high by any means. These days a 6 inning start is totally acceptable for most starters.
  12. Absolutely. Throwing at guys is still part of the game, for better or worse. But when you drill a guy in the head it really exposes how foolish and dangerous it all is. Naturally I'm mainly hoping for the Yanks to lose and to pick up some suspensions as well.
  13. McCann homers next AB after getting beaned. Good stuff.
  14. Kluber is a tough pitcher. He had 12 strikeouts last night. Hanley wasn't the only one having trouble making contact.
  15. Nice beanbrawl today!
  16. You'd think Betances should get at least 4 games for hitting a batter in the head, where it was fairly obviously intentional.
  17. And yet Hanley has a .292 career batting average and .855 OPS, numbers that most hitters would love to have. It is indeed a funny game.
  18. Heck no, he's Mr. Fantastic.
  19. Hanley has had a disappointing season and he had an awful game last night, but in the first 2 games of this series he had 3 hits, 2 walks, and 3 RBI. I don't think he should be yanked from the lineup because of last night.
  20. I assume you were satisfied with the game before this one though.
