  1. Yes, I saw that and commented on it in the Sanchez thread. I wasn't expecting anything to happen today on the holiday.
  2. It's not so much taking strike one down the middle that bothers me, it's taking strike three down the middle.
  3. Swihart has had a lot of setbacks. However, it must be said, there is nothing in his resume to suggest he will ever be an impact bat. His stats actually look a lot like Brock Holt's.
  4. We really didn't need a link to any stats to know this. Our friend bosoxmal is probably the only Sox fan in the world who would think of Swihart as a possible DH.
  5. I agree with others who have suggested that taking the first pitch is part of the team's general philosophy of working the count and driving up pitch counts. This year that philosophy doesn't seem to be paying off. I suspect there has been some discussion about getting a little more aggressive lately but now it seems like a lot of our hitters are confused - 'in between'.
  6. Well, Sanchez is going to miss the Baltimore series at least.
  7. And obviously Sanchez will be playing tonight in a key game against Baltimore as well. I'm a little surprised the media has said so little about this whole fishy deal.
  8. I was just trying to say there's room for everybody's opinion...maybe it didn't come across that way.
  9. And if Sale doesn't go back to pitching like an ace they're dead in the water anyway.
  10. Greinke
  11. Baseball management and economics aren't quite as rational as general business principles though.
  12. I still don't understand some of this waiver stuff. I'm befuddled about this Stanton thing, and I was puzzled years ago when Manny cleared waivers after the 2003 season.
  13. I think I am looking past the homerun tear. He has a career WAR of 34 already.
  14. Mookie's underperformance is the one thing I'm really surprised about. I still think he's due for a tear, but the clock is ticking.
  15. I agree, there's room for both. And there's a lot of stuff in baseball that will always be somewhat of a mystery. It just seems to be the nature of the game, and it has a lot to do with why baseball is the greatest game to talk about...you never run out of material.
  16. There's really no need to be aghast. We've basically been a middle-of-the-pack offense all year, with typical ups and downs.
  17. Nobody but the principals involved knows what went on behind the scene in 2011. When you have a collapse like that, especially in Boston, it's inevitable that fingers are going to be pointed.
  18. Abso-freaking-lutely.
  19. How does this fit in with your general belief that Farrell is the one to blame for the team's excessive number of mental mistakes?
  20. It's actually a little surprising that none of the super-rich teams would be willing to take on Stanton's salary if they didn't have to give up prospects as well. At this point in time he might almost be a bargain compared to, say, David Price's contract, or the projected contracts for Harper and Machado.
  21. My philosophy is much the same, though I tend to think of it in the same terms as that popular song from the hippie days: 'Love the one you're with.' The only real exception to that was Valentine, who was obviously batshit crazy almost from the outset.
  22. Tigers appeals were dealt with Friday and serving of suspensions began yesterday. But Sanchez and Romine not decided yet...surprise surprise.
  23. I believe they're easing him back into regular play.
  24. Yes, Gray has pitched well. Frankly I was thrilled that we got 4 runs off him.
  25. I have to agree. From what I've seen it's mostly dudes who dig them.
