  1. Do you think? Sale Price-assuming health obviously Pomeranz Porcello E-Rod Who do you replace with the new starter?
  2. He was out of action for almost 2 months. He threw 21 pitches Sept 17 and 40 last night. Probably not enough time to ramp up to much more than 50 pitches. Farrell sounds pretty excited about having him available to pitch multiple innings out of the pen.
  3. Keeping Price back another game worked out pretty good too.
  4. I don't like Youk's answer.
  5. Hanley's OPS+ this year is 94. If he's this bad next year we should be able to do what we want without the union objecting.
  6. There's something seriously wrong with Tanaka. Take a look at the pitch Russell Martin homered on. You could see from the moment it left Tanaka's hand that it was on a flat trajectory headed for the middle of the plate like he was just laying it in there.
  7. Nothing wrong with that list.
  8. Attaboy Derek!
  9. Maybe all Price had really was a triceps strain... heh heh...
  10. I wanted Sale to start that game against the Birds because I felt it significantly enhanced our chances to win the game. If we lost the game the Yanks would be only 2 back with 10 to go. I did not want them to have any more chance than they had already did. Don't f*** around. It's pretty simple...it's not North Korean rocket science.
  11. Throw in Holt and it might work.
  12. Personally, I see no reason why a division winner deserves a better break than a wild card team with a better record than the division winner. Divisions are just arbitrary groupings designed to promote artificial rivalries and reduce travel costs. Like everything else Bud Selig did, it's all about the dollars. Bud was good at that part of his job, I have to admit.
  13. There's not much choice but to keep him and make sure the option doesn't vest.
  14. I hate polls like this. I voted win it all because why not.
  15. Good, we can shelve this discussion for the next decade.
  16. Now that you mention it, the Sox are 22-9 in Sale starts (71%) and 67-55 in non-Sale starts (55%).
  17. This makes perfect sense, really. A certain amount of stress is a good thing. You often hear about athletes having nerves or 'butterflies' before competition as a natural consequence of their systems getting ready to perform.
  18. I agree with mvp on this one. The extra wild card opens it up for more teams with mediocre regular seasons. 96 wins is much harder to achieve than 85. You're right that in a 5 game series the 85 can take down the 96, but that doesn't mean they should get the chance.
  19. A very unrealistic proposal, since Marlins wouldn't put in money like that. But I wouldn't do it anyway, because Sale is too valuable as an underpaid ace for 2 more years. Also Stanton has that opt-out after 2020.
  20. Well, he did look pretty good Wednesday night, so it's not all doom and gloom.
  21. Yeah, it's funny, but you're the same one who says Price's bad playoff numbers are the product of randomness and 'tiny sample sizes spread out over a period of years'!
  22. Nobody knows if extra rest does any good anyway. In 2015 the Jays tried that with Slash's favorite pitcher Price. Didn't work, and there was plenty of second-guessing about whether he was rusty.
  23. You and moon both started out clearly saying you wouldn't have pitched him at all and you would have used a bunch of relief pitchers instead. That's quite a bit different from having Sale start and pulling him after we had a decent lead. Or maybe you think it isn't.
  24. You ALWAYS have to be careful with moon's data.
  25. So now there are two separate sets of goalposts on the field. The original argument was whether Sale should have started the game. But now we seem to be hearing more of the argument that it was okay for him to start, but not to throw that many pitches.
