The big problem is we're very restricted financially. 'Cut Hanley loose' sounds nice, but we're paying him 22 million next year, so getting some value out of him would be better. And we're paying Pedey for several more years, so all you can do is cross your fingers for health.

I hear ya. There was also the fateful moment in Game 5 when Tony Clark hit the ground-rule double that would have driven in the series-winning run if it didn't bounce over the wall in the right-field corner. The baseball gods were smiling on us that year, for once.

Maybe overshadowed by the lousy starting pitching, but the hitting was awful in the 2 playoff losses as well.

Don Mattingly didn't officially get fired by the Dodgers, but they 'mutually agreed to part ways' after winning 3 Division titles in a row.

If the Sox get swept out I think it's a real possibility. Francona was shown the door after a 90 win season and 2 titles in 8 years. We do have kind of a small window with this group, and we don't really have the resources to make big personnel changes before next year. Changing the manager is one of the few significant moves they can make.

Farrell should probably go back to being a pitching coach. I've defended him a lot in the second half. I think his in-game managing is generally fine. But I do seriously question his skills as a behind-the-scenes manager and motivator. The way the team has failed to show up for this series is really moving the needle to the bad side for me.

I agree. DD inherited a nice farm and some very good young position players. But he also inherited a terrible pitching staff and some crippling contracts.

On the topic of clutch/choke/playoff pressure... Before last night's Dodgers-D'Backs game even started, Eck was talking about how nervous D'Backs starter Walker might be...Eck said 'I'm nervous for him.' it was interesting.

93 wins and a +117 differential and a second straight early exit are barely acceptable under the circumstances, which are a large payroll, high expectations, a depleted farm, a closing window and that whole damn cliff thing.

If you review history you can see that our franchise has made a series of grave mistakes that commenced in 2011. We had the best general manager and the best manager in baseball and they are now in other cities showing how it's done.

It's all captured on film for posterity, Millar saying that to Shaughnessy - with a grin on his face! Just incredible. And then he gets the crucial walk off Rivera in the 9th to boot.

Girardi is being destroyed everywhere, and not just for the challenge failure, some of the other moves in the game as well, and for his postgame excuses. This really might be the worst game a manager has ever had.

I think if you're going to make a big move you have to replace Farrell and see how things go next year. Maybe these guys just aren't as good as we hoped. Maybe another manager would get more out of them.

What really stings is that we've now had Price, Porcello, Sale and Pomeranz all bomb out on us in the playoffs the last 2 years.

After missing the playoffs 2 years in a row and an epic collapse though. 2011 was the year that f***ed us. Francona and Epstein gone in one fell swoop.
