  1. Seems to me like everybody wins, once you accept that sports fans are nuts and people are suckers.
  2. Pitchers certainly need some time to ramp up.
  3. What if we're fighting for the division with the Yanks?
  4. Health of starting pitchers could easily dictate who wins.
  5. Obviously the best case scenario would be for HanRam to have a good season but not reach the vesting option. I just don't think Alex Cora should be expected to manage the team with one eye on that number if HanRam is going well.
  6. I am also of the mind that if Hanley is having an excellent season, you forget the option and let the chips fall where they may. In a small window, every year is huge, and you have to take your shot when it's there.
  7. Believe it or not, baseball has followed in the footsteps of golf with a lot of these new measurements. In golf they started tracking swing speed, ball speed and launch angle maybe 5 years ago.
  8. To me it's not a question of being scared. But if you're not taking the Yankees seriously as a tough opponent this year I think you're kidding yourself.
  9. I think spring training stats mean a lot more for guys like Travis and Swihart than they do for proven players.
  10. Jabie Jay was great in 2016, period. 2015 and 2017 his offense was suspect for sure.
  11. Holt is a decent utility player. WTF do people expect.
  12. I think if anything Holt has now become somewhat of a whipping boy for some fans. Dombrowski likes him, it would seem.
  13. On the topic of beanballs... In the documentary about the Sox 1967 Impossible Dream Season, Yaz was talking about Jim Lonborg and what a tough guy he was. Yaz said Lonborg would come up to him before the game and ask him if there was anyone Yaz wanted him to throw at. And in those days the pitchers were often the ones who were retaliated against.
  14. I'll agree. Hanley has been by all accounts a first class citizen in his time with us.
  15. You're right. Holt can be optioned to AAA, or traded.
  16. He was terrific in 2010 and most of 2011. The weird thing about 2011 was that virtually the entire pitching staff collapsed in September.
  17. Absolutely, and a first baseman can be called on to make a lot of fielding plays on his own as well.
  18. Drilling Stanton for no good reason and starting a beanball war just for the heck of it - no, I don't see that happening.
  19. On the other hand, you don't want a big controversy in the clubhouse about it either. We had enough of that s*** last year.
  20. Yeah, I might be giving them the 'benefit of the doubt', but I didn't think that was a panic move either. Vazquez had missed an entire season.
  21. And now pitching for the Pirates, Dovydas Neverauskas.
  22. Moreland will get playing time. In the games that JDM plays the outfield, Hanley will DH and Moreland will play first, presumably. Cora has options and I'm sure he'll figure it all out.
  23. I understand. I made a personal decision to not watch US college sports anymore. It's not just because of the money stuff. It's all the coverups of sexual assaults and the like by players that finally sealed it for me.
  24. I don't think you automatically lose the international pool money. I think there's another condition about signing a free agent...have to read the fine print.
  25. Every big business is corrupt...nice way of justifying everything, I guess. Like 'all politicians are corrupt, so who cares if Trump conspired with the Russkies to rig the election?'
