    We may never get the full story. Personally I suspect that if MLB thought the slide was A-OK and that the Red Sox therefore overreacted, they would have gone a little lighter on Austin. But maybe I'm a touch cynical.

    Such retaliation has been part of the game forever, as you know. The general consensus among players who have spoken on the subject seems to be that if you hit the guy in the back it's 'the right way'. Even Kimmi advocates this, I think.

    Or, maybe JBJ will get his numbers in order and this thread will go back into mothballs. I mean, he raised his average 73 freakin' points last night, from 133 to 206. A couple more good games is all it would take. Because it's early, after all.

    I had to go with one extreme or the other. He says he's fine so I said he'd make his next start. But God knows what's really going on inside his arm.

    Johnson pitched 2 innings the first game. Kind of rules him out for pitching 4 or 5 the next night unless you're trying to end his season.

    There are actually some hopeful things about JBJ's numbers. One is that he's only struck out 4 times in 8 games. Another is that he has a crazy-low BABip of .154.

    Well, as we now know, their plan was to have HanRam play and hopefully rake and not 'stop the vest'. So obviously this idea and signing Moose was never even a remote possibility. The realistic alternatives to Moreland were LoMo and Duda.

    I think it's pretty unlikely Moose would have signed with us to be a backup player.
