  1. We're only just starting Year 2 of 5 in the current CBA, so there's a long way to go and a lot of possible developments. All the recent talk about rule changes highlights the fact that in spite of all the bloated revenue numbers, teams are seriously worried about fan interest being on the decline.
  2. Jenny was overrated too.
  3. True, you didn't bring cap space into it. But you suggested that a lot of teams may have 'shied away' from JDM because of health issues. I think you know that likely had much less to do with it than the fact that most teams simply weren't interested in forking out $110 million for any player this offseason. Possible reasons for that: -Cap space -Legitimate lack of room in payroll budget -Willing to put a low budget crap team on the field to make profits -Tanking for high draft picks
  4. Players like JDM show why WAR can be a very meaningful number. If he has a big season he can deliver 4-4.5 WAR. Very worthwhile having, but not an elite player. Boras really made a fool of himself with his talk about seeking 7 years and $210 million for JDM.
  5. J D Martinez is still not an official member of the Red Sox. The possibility still exists that he may not be signed because of medical concerns. Or, maybe they're finding something that will lead them to try to alter his contract like they did with Napoli.
  6. The Windy City, huh? In Halifax the weather is a constant topic of conversation, partly because it can change radically from day to day and even hour to hour. Every once in a while we have to remind ourselves that as much crappy weather as we get, we hardly ever get extreme weather, the kind that poses a threat to properties and lives.
  7. You ought to try Halifax. Our weather is very similar to Boston's except 5-10 degrees colder.
  8. Yes, that was a good one.
  9. OK that's enough about Swihart's trade value...we don't want one of harmony's posts about how little trade value he has, complete with fWAR numbers and links...
  10. Unfortunately, unexpected s***** things happen too.
  11. Here's a pretty good piece by Vaccaro on these new ideas for speeding up baseball: https://nypost.com/2018/02/22/why-are-we-dreaming-up-insane-baseball-rules-in-the-first-place/ Here's his comment on this latest one: But the new apex (or maybe low-pex) was reached thanks to an anonymous baseball executive who texted radio host Rich Eisen the other day, suggesting a new rule that a team trailing in the ninth inning could bypass its batting order and simply send up whomever it wishes. The idea quickly went viral and rapidly caused instant widespread outrage, a trial balloon that quickly turned into the Hindenburg.
  12. It really doesn't matter if ERod is 'overrated'. What matters is he's a 25-year old starting pitcher who has shown promise and is under control for 4 more years on a team that is going to be losing a lot of players over the next few years. He's a valuable asset.
  13. The doc probably had an early golf game.
  14. This may have been true until last year, when you really started going off on Farrell about lineups and such, calling him a clown, idiot, criminally negligent etc. That was when I said you seemed to have morphed into Fred LOL
  15. I'm quite confident Alex Cora will do a fine job with the lineups.
  16. Nick was talking about our 230 M AAV for tax purposes. He said that didn't include Castillo. He's right.
  17. As you said there will be a bunch of tough decisions.
  18. I have very strong doubts that Kimbrel will be in a Red Sox uniform in 2019. He'll be looking for Chapman money and he'll probably get close to it - assuming he pitches well this year.
  19. As far as the MLBPA is concerned, we're the Good Guys this year. Tax be damned. Share the wealth, baby!
  20. Exactly. And we're not talking about a rumor, we're talking about facts not in dispute. With Wright, we don't know what happened at all.
  21. Marrero homered twice in the same game off Quintana last year. It was one of the funniest things I saw all year.
  22. No way should Martinez be booed for a drawn-out negotiation in the weirdest offseason ever.
  23. It's no use, a lot of people love playing here's my lineup for some reason.
  24. Which part of what I said is inaccurate?
