  1. That's pure speculation as far as Nunez is concerned, of course.
  2. I think part of the benefit of Betts leading off is his speed, too. But yes, this stuff about the lineup can all get a bit muddled, that's for sure.
  3. Batting 2nd supposedly yields the optimum combination of plate appearances and RBI opportunities.
  4. That's all factored into the Cot's Contracts tax numbers.
  5. Now now cp we're not talking about catcher, we're talking about first base. You mentioned bad hops, so here's the deal - you tell me the last time a major league first baseman had to spend time on the DL because of a bad hop and I'll concede you're right that it's a dangerous position.
  6. If Cora has JD hit 3rd it'll be a little surprising. JD seems like the perfect 4 hitter. But we'll see.
  7. But how many times do these things actually result in injury? I just can't remember seeing many first basemen get injured on the field. First basemen seem to be the most likely guys to play 150 games or more. Meanwhile we've seen Hanley and Swihart get injured out in left in the last few years running into walls. Just throwing it out there.
  8. Plus he's still got other work to attend to LOL
  9. Just for the sake of having an argument, though, I think playing first base has to be a little safer and/or easier on the body than playing left field, in Fenway at least. You don't tend to smash into walls very often playing first.
  10. You've got spring fever, man LOL.
  11. And really bad things have a way of happening to novices out in Fenway's left field...Hanley and Swihart in the last few years alone.
  12. As you know message board posters have crystal balls.
  13. Porcello I figure.
  14. Wouldn't it be something if Castillo lights the world on fire this spring...
  15. If I could jump in here, based on what Kimmi has said in the past, you should probably have your 5th-best hitter in the #3 spot.
  16. Scotty making much more sense than usual LOL
  17. Bullhorn, I like that. One of the reasons I chose Bellhorn for my screen name was because it's such a cool/weird/funny name.
  18. The 'fascination' with Brentz only occurred because he went on a home run hitting tear last year at a time when the big team was so lacking in power. It was nothing new or unusual for fans to cast a glance toward some guy in the minors who looks like he could help.
  19. Can't get around genetics LOL
  20. Latest on J.D. Martinez, Red Sox By Kyle Downing | February 25, 2018 at 4:14pm CDT SUNDAY, 4:14pm: There could be a press conference announcing the Martinez signing “as early as Monday morning,” Ian Browne of MLB.com tweets. The Red Sox and Boras “had a productive weekend adjusting contract language,” per Browne.
  21. As Michael Jordan demonstrated, and learned, no matter how superb an athlete you are, hitting high-level pitching is really freaking hard.
  22. Another factor, which Boras will never mention, of course, is that the new CBA that the players signed was a bad deal for them.
  23. It seems to be 'streamlined' stat keeping. Not sure why they even bother with it.
  24. I have my doubts that other teams would know very much about whatever specific health issue the Red Sox are concerned with, unless perhaps it was another team that performed their own physical examination on him, like Arizona. Obviously everybody, including us, knows about the actual injuries he's had and how many games he's missed. He certainly seemed healthy in the latter part of last season, hitting 29 homers in 62 games with Arizona.
