  1. Using a starter in relief who is scheduled to start later in the series has not been done very often that I'm aware of. Unless you've got some examples that show otherwise...
  2. People didn't know he was a crook at the time. I'm just quibbling with the term 'worth'.
  3. Solid post Max.
  4. He's been making some good moves too. Using Porcello in the 8th is thinking outside the box a bit, and it paid off nicely again.
  5. Probably thinking about making the infield defense a little better than it would be with Holt. Kinsler made the decision look bad on the offensive side, that's for sure.
  6. Jesus, they scored 7 runs in 8 innings against the best pitching staff in baseball. Grab a clue.
  7. What's really amazing is the bitching that goes on AFTER A BIG WIN.
  8. The Aztec Gods showed up, just a day late iortiz.
  9. FWIW when I was referring to sensible people I was talking about the people who don't post regularly on the game threads, so I was including you as one of the sensible ones. Sorry for being so snappy today, the playoffs are doing this to me.
  10. You're a little too sensitive maybe.
  11. It's going to be hard for any team to sustain success with the changes we've seen. For one thing cheap young talent isn't staying cheap as long. Mookie made 10.5 mill this year and is predicted to make 18.7 mill next year. In his final arb year he might make 27 mill or something like that? Deservedly so, of course. But not exactly cheap.
  12. Springer's the hotter hitter, but the walk would have loaded the bases for Altuve, who ain't bad himself. I don't think many managers would have done it.
  13. We could even have a game thread for the sensible people here. Hmmm...
  14. Man, I feel like Luis Severino, I didn't realize tonight's game was an earlier start.
  15. My guess is Devers.
  16. I doubt it was the temperature taking 5-6 MPH off his fastball, moon. The guy pitched in Chicago for years. And Verlander's velocity seemed to be at the usual level. I think we have to face the fact he's hurt and trying to pitch through it.
  17. I love Sale. But his durability is more of a question than ever. Now it's not just a question of him wearing down late in the season, but of the structural health of his arm.
  18. We would have liked it if Mookie roped one down in the corner of course...
  19. Yeah, it's a freaking wonder these bozos led the majors in scoring. When you can't muster offense against Verlander and the Houston relief corps you might as well just pack it in.
  20. I think there was some data last year that the Red Sox were taking a very high number of first-pitch strikes, which was attributed to the team's 'passive' approach. There was also a lot of pre-season chatter about Cora's intentions to implement a more aggressive approach. But a lot of it's the old rock-paper-scissors game, isn't it? What you do depends on what you think your opponent is going to do.
  21. Fact check: Last night was our 5th playoff game. In our first we were up 5-0 after 4. In our third we were up 10-1 after 4. In our fourth we were up 4-0 after 4.
  22. Get serious. Do we really have to stick to the year 2018 on this thread? You say you don't care what's discussed and then you question it. If you're not interested in the topic of Chris Sale's future you just have to disregard any posts about it. Pretty simple.
  23. Um, what did you think it was? Did you read through it at all?
