  1. RBI and BA are both the wrong stats. Right? He's hitting 161/333/419 for a 753 OPS. His BABip is 143.
  2. Joe Kelly didn't look too bad himself.
  3. I'm going to guess it's been done before. Not that it isn't cool trivia, but there have been a lot of World Series first games featuring players who have never been in one before.
  4. I like to think I can distinguish between the two, but maybe I'm flattering myself.
  5. For 2019 he will be. But for 2020 we may be losing both Sale and Porcello.
  6. Honestly I think it would be better to avoid any incidents with Machado. Don't want to stir anybody up and mess with any mojo. Just keep playing great ball and kicking ass on the scoreboard.
  7. The problem is we don't have any homegrown starter talent.
  8. One guy who seems to hustle 100% is JDM.
  9. Anybody notice how he DID run on that next flare to LF - the one that bounced into the seats for a GRD?
  10. I don't think there's any question - Eovaldi would prefer to be a $$$tarter - as well he should.
  11. I think it was E-Rod who missed Machado several times. It was Sale who threw at Machado in a later game after the one in which Barnes threw one in the direction of Machado's head.
  12. You called for a split, yes, but here's how you called for the split to happen: I think diminished Chris Sale loses the opener to Kershaw. The Sox get Ryu out early in game 2 and beat the Dodgers pen.
  13. SPLINTER remains a non-believer in Cora.
  14. Praise God, we're back!
  15. Yeah, sad as it is, Machado is a great reason not to do it.
  16. I just don't get the stuff about Hanley being a 'constant attention-seeker'. I just didn't see it. Lots of smiling and some celebrations after getting a big hit or something, sure. But that's all I really saw. And I don't remember any quotes from him that made him look like a selfish player. I'm not trying to attack you and Dewey on this, I'm just genuinely puzzled about what you guys observed.
  17. As far as the hack part goes, invoking Nostradamus every time we make fun of someone's lousy predictions is pretty hack in itself - I don't think the 'dumb-ass' part does much further damage...
  18. Oh dear, did I miss "Be Sensitive to Trolls Day"?
  19. "Yeah, that didn't help, I'll tell you that." - Dustin Pedroia on The Slide and its effect on his current health status.
  20. Some interesting stuff about Machado in this piece, including quotes from Matt Barnes and even Pedroia himself, on The Slide: https://nypost.com/2018/10/22/machados-next-free-agent-test-comes-as-world-series-villain/
  21. No they weren't, but their offensive contributions were Herculean. This question illustrates why WAR-type total contributions measurements can be important.
  22. The same Nostradumbass went on to predict that the Astros would own us. He really knows his baseball, that guy.
  23. It probably only makes sense against right hand pitching, I would agree on that.
  24. Power hitting may not be the key but offense has been a big factor in our success. We've won games by scores of 5-4, 7-5 and 8-6. Without offense those were L's.
