  1. There's another L-R split that's worth looking at. In games where they faced a lefty starter, the Yanks had an .832 OPS. In games where they faced a righty starter, the Yanks had a .761 OPS. What this shows is that they did do much better against lefty starters than righty starters. The difference gets shaved when you include relievers, probably because so many relievers are righties.
  2. In the 'can you believe it' department, it's already the 7th year on the ballet for Bonds and Clemens. 6th year for Schilling and Mussina. 10th year for Edgar Martinez.
  3. I remember Pena. He had 2 nice starts, got injured and never returned to baseball. It can be a cruel game.
  4. Of course he doesn't suck. He's got the numbers. The 'problem', as such, is that he's expected to be the ace and to come up big in the biggest games. And if you don't come through people start labeling you as a choker or whatever. Price went through it for years, as we know.
  5. Dojji, you seem to be a sort of champion of the underdog. Whether it's Brian Johnson or Kason Gabbard. It becomes kind of an emotional attachment. I was the same way with Daniel Nava. I always wanted him to do well. moon is more of the cold-blooded fact man. Kidding!
  6. The award is kind of dumb, but so is your comment. Price didn't pitch bad in 2017, he only pitched 74 innings because he was injured. That happens to pitchers all the time, no matter how much they're paid.
  7. They weren't a powerhouse in the seasons they finished last, obviously.
  8. As of now, the Red Sox are obviously a powerhouse.
  9. I think he was talking about Reyes.
  10. I think it's better than finishing second or third in the division every year and winning no WS. According to you, all you have to do to be a powerhouse is win 100 games-even if you finished 8 games back and got knocked out in the division series. I guess we'll have to let you define what it means.
  11. I think I like your uncle Tom.
  12. Winning the World Series made a favorable impression on you, I see.
  13. There you go - the two sides of the coin, with Butler and this guy.
  14. The rewards for that achievement are pretty slim.
  15. What do you call it when you realize without a doubt that you're just not good enough to play in the majors? I would imagine the response varies a lot from one individual to the other. Some can accept it and play in the minors or move on to making a living some other way. For some I would think it's pretty tough.
  16. Most of whom will have their hopes and dreams shattered...that's what I'm saying. It's all relative, really. Guys like Trout and Mookie obviously have all the confidence in the world. But the further down the totem pole you go, the more of a struggle it is.
  17. Yeah, I suppose you can be a powerhouse even though you haven't won the division since way back in 2012.
  18. On the other hand, many MLB careers are very short. If you include the whole population of guys who play even a few MLB games, obviously a lot of them have had their confidence to play at the highest level destroyed.
  19. I think so too. It may not be a huge difference, but any difference counts.
  20. Yeah, what did desperate dave do for us this year?
  21. It may have something to do with having such a fresh example in Pedroia.
  22. Fair point. Eovaldi did have the 22.1 postseason innings with a 1.61 ERA and .81 WHIP though. He's a speculative play, that's for sure.
  23. He also had a 2.2 fWAR in 111 innings. That's pretty good.
  24. That's true. I was thinking more in terms of payroll.
  25. I would view Eovaldi as replacing Porcello after 2019.
