  1. Good point. 2018 Home 967 Away 800 Still a huge split, but not one you'd complain about.
  2. Well, it's not the worst thing in the world if Devers slides over to first base. We will have an opening there after this year.
  3. I don't know, but in this case the player's agent chose to make a public statement of denial, and that's a bit unusual.
  4. It was also perhaps a teeny bit immature, or shall we say hot-headed, when David Ortiz pounded a bullpen phone into plastic smithereens.
  5. One concerning thing about Machado is his numbers at Camden Yards and away from Camden Yards. Career OPS at Camden .888 Career road OPS .761 - yuck
  6. As far as Manny vs. Bogaerts - Manny may be the bigger talent, but I think I'd rather have Xander. Some of that's homerism, no doubt, but the guy's been with us since 2013, played on 2 championship teams, really hit the ball well this year.
  7. Manny's agent says the report about the $175 mill offer is bogus. It might be turning into a circus.
  8. Manny's agent says Olney is full of crap, the report is inaccurate. Now we really do have a soap opera.
  9. I honestly don't know if the price is going to get that much higher. It's January 16. If there was going to be a bidding war it would have taken place by now. There's something a little odd going on here. It could be that Manny really did himself in with his behaviors.
  10. If you believe in fWAR, losing Kelly's 0.7 fWAR shouldn't hurt too much (great postseason aside).
  11. What teams? LOL For starters he preserved the lead in games 1 and 4 of the ALDS against the Yanks. Just check his postseason game log on Baseball-Reference. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=barnema01&t=p&post=1
  12. Well, Barnes pitched fantastically well last postseason. 8.2 IP allowing a slash line of 103/257/207. Vastly better than Kimbrel's line, needless to say. Which doesn't mean he'll be a great closer, but it speaks well of his ability to pitch under pressure.
  13. It really does seem like teams in general are kind of saying 'fk you' to the players.
  14. So the Phillies are 'expected to make a formal offer to Harper sometime in the near future.' Just take your time, guys, it's only January 16...
  15. It seems like with these new-style offseasons, you get some signings in December, and then virtually nothing happens in January.
  16. It looked that way to some of us knee-jerkers here. You, in your omnipotent wisdom, were right.
  17. Put it this way: at $30 million or even $35 million, it's quite likely that Mookie will give full value and more through the first half of his contract at least.
  18. True, but for a while it looked like Kelly might not even make the playoff roster. (Fortunately Cora knew much better.) And CK was bad in the playoffs. It's a funny old game LOL
  19. That's right. Taking Mookie's 30 million and divvying it up among 3 players isn't necessarily going to put you ahead, not by any means.
  20. Yeah, we sure do. Here's what you said about him last night: We say good bye to Sale & Porcello, which might not be awful, if Sale shows injury issues this year.
  21. Not sure I want any unpleasant surprises.
  22. You might want to hold off on this assertion until we see what Machado actually gets.
  23. I've been reading the comments of a lot of Yankee fans who are really pissed that the Yankees do not seem to signing Machado or Harper. They outright assumed that the team reset the tax rate specifically for this purpose. And there were certainly a lot of stories to that effect. So in an odd way, it might be somewhat of a public relations fiasco for them.
  24. That's certainly part of it, and it's understandable. But how many teams are now making the decision not to add payroll, or to cut payroll, simply because it improves their bottom line? So instead of buying something with Pablo's $17M, you can put it in your pocket.
