  1. Even if he isn't re-signing, you don't cut loose the second-best player in the game for two seasons when you're the Boston Red Sox. You need to realize that too.
  2. Nothing to lose? Just 2 seasons of the second-best player in the game, with a team that's trying to win championships. Also, the return you get might turn into suck.
  3. So the New York Post is all over this story. Darryl Strawberry says Darling is lying. Darling says he has received texts from former Mets who 'have his back'. Dennis Boyd says he didn't hear the tirade, but he believes Darling is being truthful. And Mr. Dykstra has threatened to sue Darling, while also saying that if he saw Darling right now he would 'drop him like a red-headed f***ing stepchild'. Seriously. https://nypost.com/2019/04/01/lenny-dykstra-wants-to-drop-ron-darling-over-racist-tirade-claims/
  4. Some of those trades would represent salary dumps, like Stanton.
  5. I think notin may have been right when he said no team has ever really benefitted from trading a young superstar. If you're really interested what you should try to do is construct a realistic trade. You have to figure out which team would do it (keeping in mind Mookie will make about $50 million over the 2 seasons), what they would be willing to give up, and whether that would be the 'right price' for us.
  6. Baseball is a tough game to predict, no kidding. That doesn't make someone 'intoxicated' for thinking 6 months of Eovaldi is an upgrade over 2 months of Eovaldi, I hope.
  7. Yeesh. It was Dave D. who thought they were worth re-signing. Steamer projected Eovaldi to have a respectable fWAR of 2.4 this year, which I believe would represent an upgrade for us. But maybe Dave and the Red Sox evaluators and the projection people were all 'intoxicated' too.
  8. Definitely not. But it's debatable whether moving any of those guys would have actually helped the team.
  9. If the bullpen costs us, that's on DD, I agree with that.
  10. The extensions don't affect the 2019 payroll for tax purposes, though. And what realistic moves would have freed up money in a helpful way?
  11. I disagree with that position. Eovaldi and Pearce were with the team 2 months last year. Having them for 6 months is an upgrade.
  12. You just don't seem to be giving any weight to the fact that the payroll is already through the roof, which obviously restricts what moves can be made. The farm is also depleted.
  13. Not realistic considering the payroll situation. And they did upgrade first base and the rotation, hopefully.
  14. Losing Mookie's defense would hurt. Losing his offense would hurt even more.
  15. The one area that is open to criticism is the bullpen. Other than that, where was any upgrade possible?
  16. I think that might have been some tongue in cheek humor from Larry.
  17. I think it's an extremely unfair charge when the team has the highest payroll in baseball 2 years running and did the extensions with Sale and Bogaerts on top of that.
  18. Come on Denny. They signed Eovaldi and extended Sale and Bogaerts. Defending world champs and Henry is investing in the team HUGELY. Have some perspective.
  19. His 2018 WAR of 10.9 is tied for 21st on the list of single season WAR with Ted Williams's 1946 season. That was the highest ever registered by Williams. Any analysis of Betts should start with WAR.
