  1. I think Henry has a little more patience than you think. He stuck with Farrell through sub-.500 2014 and 2015 seasons.
  2. Well, they would certainly try. But it seems to me that even great ones like Francona don't make the playoffs every year.
  3. I thought Peter Abraham said it was an intestinal issue or something.
  4. Somehow I think that Alex Cora is well aware that things have to improve, and that if he knew exactly what 'remedial action' would result in more wins he would do it.
  5. Like I said he made 4 starts. Couldn't it have occurred during that period?
  6. I think that's one of those ideas that's great in theory but problematic in practice. Otherwise teams would be doing it already.
  7. Same. Following my premise that his remarks can be interpreted any way you want, I think they might actually be directed at the fans too, and that the unfiltered version would be something like this: 'Look, we're already spending our asses off to bring parades to you. But as soon as anything goes wrong you start whining like pussies and pointing fingers in every direction. Well, don't look at me to spend any more, you miserable, ungrateful pricks.'
  8. oldtimer, Eovaldi made 4 starts this year before they announced the new issue with loose bodies in his elbow, which our resident doctor says could be bits of cartilage or some such thing. I see no reason to think this was something they knew about in the offseason and could have dealt with then. Where are you getting the idea that they knew about it before the season?
  9. Yes, it's quite possible that the main point of Henry's remarks was simply to alert the fans to the fact that he wasn't intending to spend any more and to deflect any criticism that might be directed at him for not doing so. Defending himself, in other words. Everyone is reading into his comments what they want to read into them.
  10. The offseason just past, with the Machado and Harper contracts, gave a clear reminder that all you need is one owner who wants to make a splash and the megabucks shall be produced.
  11. That was after 2017. So we would have missed his MVP season and maybe not won the World Series in 2018.
  12. I'm talking about the $68 million.
  13. Eovaldi counts as an actual major addition by most standards.
  14. Tomorrow actually.
  15. Here's the part that seems to be directed toward DD: “My take is that maybe it isn’t the best thing in the world to bring back the same team in its entirety every time,” Henry said. “You don’t want to break a team down. But maybe a few changes wouldn’t hurt. But the feeling is always different after you win, apparently.”
  16. Kind of a fishy 21 runs though. Let's see how many they score in the next foreign country...
  17. Not realistic IMHO. They're not going to rip the guts out of the team. Porcello is the most likely to be traded, because his contract's up.
  18. He kind of said a lot in a few words, without explicitly throwing anyone under the bus. Pretty well done, really.
  19. Maybe the mound was too far from the plate.
  20. Well, he is also saying the talent is there and the team needs to play better. That's on the players and on Cora as well.
  21. I thought he might be taking a few pokes at Dombrowski for essentially bringing back the same team.
  22. Yeah, I don't know what the deal on the ballpark was, but 50 runs in 2 games is insane.
  23. No, he did refer to 2014. It's not always disastrous to bring back the same team. The 2008 team came close to going back to back with no changes.
  24. Billy Martin tried to stop the pampering, big time, with the 1980 Oakland A's. It didn't work out so well for the guys in that rotation.
