  1. But numbers should back it up. Mookie had his career season in 2018 with Beni hitting behind him. Now we're supposed to believe Mookie's recent hot streak is only because they put someone better than Beni behind him?
  2. Yeah, well, it's nothing but crickets on the Beni thing.
  3. What sometimes gets overlooked is that WAR is a 'counting stat', not a 'rate stat'. Quantity is a big part of it.
  4. He won't be a savior but he can certainly upgrade it.
  5. Beni had an .809 OPS batting second in 2018. He has an .809 OPS batting second in 2019.
  6. So how do we explain Mookie's OPS being about 200 points higher in 2018 with Beni hitting behind him? These theories fall apart if you actually take the time to dig into the numbers.
  7. The way I look at WAR, it's an excellent *starting point* when analyzing a player's performance.
  8. However you look at it, today was very encouraging. Sale is an intense competitor and I'm sure he's been working his ass off.
  9. That's exactly why I don't like looking at things that way. If you just say we're 3 games out of a Wild Card spot on July 18 it doesn't sound nearly as daunting.
  10. In this game Mookie Betts tied Ted Williams' franchise record of 13 straight games in one season with a run scored.
  11. Eovaldi pitched an inning for the PawSox today. 3 K's and a walk.
  12. Eovaldi pitched an inning for the PawSox today. 3 K's and a walk.
  13. He's a pretty good shell.
  14. Triple fail post, nice job.
  15. I suspect that opposing teams have a game plan of trying to make our starters throw as many pitches as possible.
  16. The Yankees & Rays games before July 31 should push the needle one way or the other.
  17. Far worse, in fact. If we extrapolate the current record to 50 games to equate to 2018, the record would be 5-45, or 8 games worse.
  18. Cerebral but not very humble.
  19. Your mistake, then, was not doing it on the thread for the Pearce signing where it would have been readily accessible.
  20. No doubt some of the criticisms are warranted, but it's amusing how you leave out or downplay anything that might reflect well. You left out Verlander. You make Bogey sound like DD didn't even have anything to do with it. You liked the Eovaldi signing and wanted the Yanks to sign him. Funny s***.
  21. Reaction here to the Pearce signing was overwhelmingly positive at the time. You should have voiced your dissent on that thread, it would have made you look wise, now that Steve and Mitch are doing their duet on "American Idle".
  22. All my sentiments exactly.
  23. Every sports fan is on their own personal trip. You do see mob behavior, but when you come on a message board like this you see that other fans all have their own personal perspective. That's why we argue so much LOL I admit to deriving great satisfaction from the Red Sox run of championships. My profile as a sports fan is pretty simple. The Red Sox are the only sports team I have cared about long-term. Favorite teams in other sports were all short-term. And I was a Red Sox fan for 35 years before seeing them win a title. I was 48 years old before knowing what it was like to have my team win a championship. It was quite a relief.
  24. The bottom line is, though, we are tied for the most runs scored per game in the majors. You can't ask for much more than that.
  25. I think we have a great owner. He has brought us those 4 titles. He is driven to win. We have the highest payroll. I have no real complaints. If others want to complain that's their prerogative, but no one should tell me I'm not a good fan. I've paid my dues. I've been with this team since the late Sixties. I've been through hell, just like every other Sox fan who's been with them that long.
