    We're an extreme long shot. Now if, and this is a huge if in itself, the deficit gets cuts to 3 games with a least 3 weeks left, you can be sure most people will acknowledge that they have a real chance. 3 games in 3 weeks really isn't that much.

    Here's a question for you, Kimmi. Hypothetical situation: the Red Sox are in a playoff game. It's the 9th inning and they're at bat, losing by a run. Bases loaded, 2 outs, 3 and 2 count. The pitcher throws a fastball, trying to paint the outside counter, but he misses by a couple of inches. However his catcher, who is a superb pitch-framer, pulls it back in just enough for the ump to be fooled and call it a strike. Instead of a tie game, it's game over. What's your reaction to the play? Do you applaud the great framing job or are you angry at the ump for missing the call?

    It's all part of the give and take of the Rivalry, Denny. We have a Yankee fan here who loves to torment us about Sale's problems and our bleak future, so why shouldn't we be firing back with anything we've got? At the end of the day it's all just for entertainment here anyway.

    IIRC Iggy's 2014 injury wasn't something that happened in a game. He had some sort of general condition with his shins.

    Our problem is we have to catch two teams. I daresay that ramps up the odds against us.

    moon, we traded Iggy in 2013 and he ended up with Detroit. We played Detroit in the ALCS and he made 2 big errors that helped us win the series. Do you really expect us not to make a big deal out of that?

    Fact check please! The .785 OPS you're citing for Iggy was only for the 63 games with Boston, and was the result of a crazy high BABip to start out with. His OPS was .985 at the end of June before plummeting to .785 due to a .464 OPS in July. With Detroit in 2013 he had a .654 OPS in 46 games. His final OPS for 2013 was .735.

    We're back onto the Iggy trade? Good stuff LOL I'll never regret that trade. It was a deadline deal and Ben was being aggressive. Good on him. Iggy was and still is a good solid little middle infielder.

    Jeezus, moon, why do you torture yourself and us with stuff like this. Morton's deal is only 2 years, of course, not 4 like Eovaldi's. Let's just be happy the Yanks didn't sign both those guys. I think there were some reports Morton wanted to play for a team in the south.

    Some of the really good pitch framing is cheating, when you get down to it. Catchers pull in balls to make them look like strikes. It's as old as the game, I get that. But I don't think the game would suffer without it.

    I'm not sure why JDM is being questioned so much. He was fantastic last year and he's been very good this year.
