  1. Corbin got a 6 year deal.
  2. Sorry Tyler.
  3. WAR requires some digging into. It's just a starting point. If you use it with any regularity you know that it's a 'counting number' so games played is a big factor.
  4. This is exactly why WAR is a useful tool.
  5. Value is all approximate. JBJ's value based on WAR is clearly in the ballpark of 10 mill.
  6. Inciarte is under contract for 2 more years at about 6 mill per. Pillar is in final arb year and will probably get about 8 mill. Plus you have to give up something for them. All in all not a big saving.
  7. Billy Hamilton's bat would make the game threaders pine for JBJ.
  8. We can't forget that Chris Sale's status for 2020 is still up in the air. He's to be re-evaluated by Dr. Andrews in 5+ weeks.
  9. E-Rod is certainly making a case to be part of the team's future.
  10. Not really. Us armchair GM's and managers just love to pick apart the real ones, that's all. When players play s***** or don't play because they're hurt, they take their lumps. There was a party when Nunez was booted, and there are more planned for the departures of Porcello, Moreland, Pearce et cetera.
  11. Corbin pitched a total of 389.2 innings in 2017-2018. Is he really that much more of an injury risk than most starting pitchers?
  12. Not really - I'd say most of the criticism of DD is for pillaging the farm.
  13. Nope. But the Yankees could easily have afforded the extra cost. That's what a lot of Yankee fans think, anyway.
  14. Plus signing Happ instead of Corbin, who is having an excellent season for the Nats.
  15. No, the baseballs are definitely a big factor. This was proven when they started using the MLB balls in Triple A ball and home runs instantly increased by about 50%.
  16. You can't chuck in the season just because your probabilities are low.
  17. When it comes to PED's, one thing I'm about 99% sure of is that my boy Bellhorn was doing 'em. A chunky little guy like that hitting the bombs he did in 2004...
  18. I'm hoping you didn't really take him seriously.
  19. Yaz also had an RBI single off Gossage in the 8th inning of that game. On a sadder note, Yaz also made the last out in the 1975 World Series.
  20. And now Bubba Starling
  21. Unfortunately the A's didn't get the memo about their talent level. They've just won 6 of 7 vs. the Astros and Yanks.
  22. The pot shots probably say that we're a little childish when it comes to being sports fans. But that's part of the appeal, isn't it? You get to be kind of a loud-mouthed schnook for a while. It's an escape from all the seriousness of our everyday lives.
  23. What I think is that even the fans who say they've given up haven't completely given up. They're just very doubtful, and that's understandable considering the statistical probabilities against this happening. Also I think because we won it all last year it's easier to accept that this isn't our year. A psychologist would probably suggest a whole bunch of explanations for the 'I give up' behavior. I do appreciate the optimistic attitude of people like yourself.
