  1. Isn't that a little unrealistically rosy?
  2. I think a lot depends on what we hear about Sale, and how optimistic the pale fellow feels about 2020. It should be a more interesting offseason than last one.
  3. One thing I don't get is the big difference between JBJ's bWAR and his fWAR.
  4. Well, I guess there are degrees of casual. I think most Red Sox fans know that Ted Williams's career numbers were lower than they could have been because of his years of military service, for example.
  5. You're a risk-averse penny-pincher like Kimmi, then. Which is fine.
  6. But we also have to trade something of value for Inciarte.
  7. Casual fans can EASILY find all this stuff on Baseball-Reference. And even the casual fan understands that games played is a crucial number.
  8. The Angels do have to give Trout over $400 million. His extension was for $430 million.
  9. Corbin got a 6 year deal.
  10. Sorry Tyler.
  11. WAR requires some digging into. It's just a starting point. If you use it with any regularity you know that it's a 'counting number' so games played is a big factor.
  12. This is exactly why WAR is a useful tool.
  13. Value is all approximate. JBJ's value based on WAR is clearly in the ballpark of 10 mill.
  14. Inciarte is under contract for 2 more years at about 6 mill per. Pillar is in final arb year and will probably get about 8 mill. Plus you have to give up something for them. All in all not a big saving.
  15. Billy Hamilton's bat would make the game threaders pine for JBJ.
  16. We can't forget that Chris Sale's status for 2020 is still up in the air. He's to be re-evaluated by Dr. Andrews in 5+ weeks.
  17. E-Rod is certainly making a case to be part of the team's future.
  18. Not really. Us armchair GM's and managers just love to pick apart the real ones, that's all. When players play s***** or don't play because they're hurt, they take their lumps. There was a party when Nunez was booted, and there are more planned for the departures of Porcello, Moreland, Pearce et cetera.
  19. Corbin pitched a total of 389.2 innings in 2017-2018. Is he really that much more of an injury risk than most starting pitchers?
  20. Not really - I'd say most of the criticism of DD is for pillaging the farm.
  21. Nope. But the Yankees could easily have afforded the extra cost. That's what a lot of Yankee fans think, anyway.
  22. Plus signing Happ instead of Corbin, who is having an excellent season for the Nats.
  23. No, the baseballs are definitely a big factor. This was proven when they started using the MLB balls in Triple A ball and home runs instantly increased by about 50%.
