  1. You can't chuck in the season just because your probabilities are low.
  2. When it comes to PED's, one thing I'm about 99% sure of is that my boy Bellhorn was doing 'em. A chunky little guy like that hitting the bombs he did in 2004...
  3. I'm hoping you didn't really take him seriously.
  4. Yaz also had an RBI single off Gossage in the 8th inning of that game. On a sadder note, Yaz also made the last out in the 1975 World Series.
  5. And now Bubba Starling
  6. Unfortunately the A's didn't get the memo about their talent level. They've just won 6 of 7 vs. the Astros and Yanks.
  7. The pot shots probably say that we're a little childish when it comes to being sports fans. But that's part of the appeal, isn't it? You get to be kind of a loud-mouthed schnook for a while. It's an escape from all the seriousness of our everyday lives.
  8. What I think is that even the fans who say they've given up haven't completely given up. They're just very doubtful, and that's understandable considering the statistical probabilities against this happening. Also I think because we won it all last year it's easier to accept that this isn't our year. A psychologist would probably suggest a whole bunch of explanations for the 'I give up' behavior. I do appreciate the optimistic attitude of people like yourself.
  9. We're an extreme long shot. Now if, and this is a huge if in itself, the deficit gets cuts to 3 games with a least 3 weeks left, you can be sure most people will acknowledge that they have a real chance. 3 games in 3 weeks really isn't that much.
  10. Here's a question for you, Kimmi. Hypothetical situation: the Red Sox are in a playoff game. It's the 9th inning and they're at bat, losing by a run. Bases loaded, 2 outs, 3 and 2 count. The pitcher throws a fastball, trying to paint the outside counter, but he misses by a couple of inches. However his catcher, who is a superb pitch-framer, pulls it back in just enough for the ump to be fooled and call it a strike. Instead of a tie game, it's game over. What's your reaction to the play? Do you applaud the great framing job or are you angry at the ump for missing the call?
  11. Hargrove was the champ. Every one of his AB's was torture.
  12. Incredibly well. Great to see. Happy 80th birthday Yaz.
  13. You've said so several times, and it's the kind of stuff that trolls post. Warm regards and all that, I know.
  14. Fan_since_Boggs is a hardcore Yankee hater and that informs all his opinions about them. You're wasting your time.
  15. Yee-haw. And God bless the Royals for using Richard Lovelady in that spot.
  16. They've already beaten us for this year, no one's questioning that. It's all about their playoff prognosis now.
  17. It's all part of the give and take of the Rivalry, Denny. We have a Yankee fan here who loves to torment us about Sale's problems and our bleak future, so why shouldn't we be firing back with anything we've got? At the end of the day it's all just for entertainment here anyway.
  18. Spaces jointly occupied by Red Sox fans and Yankee fans are not denigration-free zones.
  19. IIRC Iggy's 2014 injury wasn't something that happened in a game. He had some sort of general condition with his shins.
  20. Our problem is we have to catch two teams. I daresay that ramps up the odds against us.
  21. moon, we traded Iggy in 2013 and he ended up with Detroit. We played Detroit in the ALCS and he made 2 big errors that helped us win the series. Do you really expect us not to make a big deal out of that?
  22. His error in the 7th inning of Game 6 was even huger.
  23. Even Jax must be nervous about that starting rotation.
  24. Fact check please! The .785 OPS you're citing for Iggy was only for the 63 games with Boston, and was the result of a crazy high BABip to start out with. His OPS was .985 at the end of June before plummeting to .785 due to a .464 OPS in July. With Detroit in 2013 he had a .654 OPS in 46 games. His final OPS for 2013 was .735.
  25. We're back onto the Iggy trade? Good stuff LOL I'll never regret that trade. It was a deadline deal and Ben was being aggressive. Good on him. Iggy was and still is a good solid little middle infielder.
