  1. He might have had a smidgeon at the end of 2018.
  2. Get a pitcher?
  3. Do you actually like it, or is it just not as bad as some of the other options?
  4. It's a good news day then.
  5. Sure. But we'll have to eat a chunk of money. There are no options that are going to be especially pleasant.
  6. Moyer is no matinee idol either. But both are good-looking next to Randy Johnson.
  7. The Mission Impossible capers are cake compared to the task Bloom has been assigned.
  8. Now your madcap sense of humor is showing.
  9. We haven't got that kind of money.
  10. I'd try just about anything for 2020.
  11. Oh yeah - my signature line means a lot to me.
  12. It's fun to gloat about Ellsbury, but I'm not sure we would want to see a head to head comparison between the Sox & Yankees on which team has flushed the most money down the toilet over the last 10 years or so.
  13. Because the law of averages suggests that he might stay healthy enough this year to show if he's actually good at baseball...
  14. Because this way creates more interest and debate and all that - the entertainment factor.
  15. They both matter, really.
  16. Schilling should be a slam dunk IMO. If 80.5 WAR and an awesome postseason resume doesn't get you in, that's f***ed up.
  17. Jack Morris is a perfect example of what people mean when they say it's not supposed to be the Hall of the Very Good.
  18. I honestly don't think Jack Morris should be in the Hall, and yes, my starting point for that statement is his career WAR. Morris's career bWAR is 43.5. Schilling's is 80.5. Hello?
  19. The WAR component additions and subtractions on Baseball-Reference (B-R) are actually pretty easy to decipher. There is a 'positional' adjustment you have to watch for.
  20. More like 2 months. Maybe you're thinking of the great Bobby Jenks...
  21. No, it doesn't guarantee anything. Nothing guarantees anything in this game.
  22. What sort of win range do you consider 'competitive'?
  23. It's going to be extremely interesting to see what they do, that's for sure.
  24. To get under the 208 million mark it appears they have to do at least one of the following: 1) Trade Betts. 2) Trade JD Martinez. 3) Trade Price. The first two are certain to piss off a fair number of fans and signal that the team is not fully committed to contending in 2020. The third will not piss off very many.
  25. They walked it back pretty quickly, though, saying it was a 'goal, but not a mandate'.
