What's interesting is that Dodgers fans are apparently complaining quite loudly about the team's offseason, so much that Kasten went public to defend the front office's approach and spending.

Ticket sales have to be impeded by the team's uncertain state. It's January 7 and we still have no clue if Betts, Price, Eovaldi, JBJ or possibly JDM will be on the team. It's starting to feel like a bit of a fiasco.

No, but he has often let others speak on these matters. You might remember this Lucchino guy... It's reported that Henry actually owns only about 40% of the shares. He's 'principal shareholder', but he doesn't own a majority of shares, so he can't make any decisions on his own. He needs Werner's support.

I don't necessarily disagree, but what do we know about how ticket sales are doing? Maybe the King of Talksox could give us some observations on that. Right now the average Sox ticket buyer has to be rather befuddled about what team he's going to be seeing.

Not sure why you're so convinced. They backpedaled on the re-set statement almost immediately, first saying it wasn't a mandate and then saying the top priority was a competitive team.

So what though? Over 162 games the difference between 40% and 60% is 32.4 wins. It's a very large difference.

The list of teams that would have any interest in trading for Mookie has to be extremely short. It's just a pile to give up for a one year rental. And as notin keeps pointing out, how much of a difference can one player make to a team for one year?

It's the cost plus only one year of control. Check me if I'm wrong, but he would be by far the most expensive 1 year rental in history. It's been widely reported that the salary cost is a major hindrance to other teams' interest.

There are a lot of variables though. Right now the offers for Betts are impacted by his projected 27.5 million salary. At the deadline the other team only has to pay 9.2 million and they get him for the stretch run and the playoffs. That can enhance what they're willing to give up.

It's a good question. I'd be surprised if Betts has told the Red Sox to not even bother making any extension offers. As you have often said, players hire agents for a reason, and I doubt that Betts's agent would tell him to take the stance of not even considering an extension. Regardless of Mookie's public comments on the matter, there is a risk factor in playing with no contract after this year, and his agent would surely not counsel him to completely disregard that risk.
