  1. I think my problem with soccer has always been the lack of scoring. If there was an 'arena football' type version of soccer I might be more interested.
  2. Hey, don't forget Nomar.
  3. Right. I think the soccer player would be more likely to look not only silly, but terrified.
  4. No doubt. I guess the only question is, who would look sillier: a) Major league slugger trying to play major league soccer; or Major league soccer player trying to hit major league pitching.
  5. True, OTOH what MLB hitters have is extraordinary eye-hand coordination.
  6. Absolutely, but it's also true that without good players there's not much sense owning a baseball team. And it's the owners who have wanted some players enough to hand them $300 million plus guaranteed contracts...
  7. Yes, the union would love it if Tony Clark told them that. Many have criticized the players for caving in and taking a bad deal in the last CBA. (Just a man looking for an argument here.)
  8. Seems like they're closing in on a deal now for a 60 or 70 game season.
  9. Well, he did accept risk by turning down the offers he did. Certainly no one expected that one of the risks would be a pandemic.
  10. Probably not a big issue. Who's going to want to spend after this disaster? Sorry, Mookie...
  11. You're saying they would have to re-set again?
  12. If that's it, there are 22 to 24 who do. But I'm guessing there are a number of undecideds.
  13. Big Papi against the shift? Maybe not tremendously exciting, but any hit by a Red Sox player is generally a good thing.
  14. Bunting for hits is fun to see. Bunting for outs, not so much.
  15. Not sure if Goodell is any better. I think maybe the NFL is just harder to f*** up.
  16. Baseball is clearly the most f***ed up of the major sports.
  17. A fluke is a fluke - I like Bloom but not even I will be crediting him for foreseeing a pandemic.
  18. Now this is some sweet hyperbole right here.
  19. Now I think you're getting carried away a bit. How are the owners 'demonizing' the players? Looks to me like they're just playing a little hardball on the salaries.
  20. You can be wacky sometimes.
  21. True enough. My position here is just that Cora's punishment was sufficient for what he did.
  22. I'm going with that too.
  23. I wouldn't call what happened to Cora a slap on the wrist. He was banned for a year, fired and humiliated. The washout of the season is just a fluke that has affected a lot of things.
  24. Good stuff. I'm a big fan of HV III, love to see him win one, or make some serious money at least.
  25. Which is so different from the other major sports, right? More evidence that baseball is a tough and tricky game, I guess.
