  1. Sure, the 2020 thread would be fine.
  2. I'm not saying it's inappropriate. But it has a lot to do with the specific matter of losing Mookie, and it could be a long discussion.
  3. Chicken and beer may have been overblown, but here's what's not overblown about 2011: -The Red Sox had one of the worst collapses in baseball history. And worse: -The Red Sox subsequently lost (arguably) both the best GM and best manager in team history.
  4. The ring Price won with the Red Sox arguably offsets the one Lester won with the Cubs.
  5. IMO we should have this discussion on the Mookie thread.
  6. I'm not a fan of having every team in the best of 3 round. They should have retained the 'best record earns you a first round bye' principle.
  7. Now name one who's guaranteed to do so.
  8. I think I know what your point is, I just don't think it's nearly as big as you're making it out to be.
  9. But there's no guarantee we'll sign one who does better than Eovaldi the next two years.
  10. Not much of one. I can see you and I will be going back and forth on this one a while.
  11. It's a combination of bias and optimism. We like to think we're trading the right ones and keeping the right ones. I realize this is mostly about DD, of course. So far we haven't been severely burned by anyone he's traded. A few mild and moderate burns, yes.
  12. As William Shatner says at the start of every episode of The Unxplained: "Well, that's what we're going to try to find out."
  13. Of course, it's extraordinarily unlikely you're going to get two Devers back.
  14. We're not turning into the Rays, any more than the Dodgers did when they hired Friedman.
  15. Kluber will probably do one of those "showcase" things.
  16. "Presumably", yes.
  17. But again, with nearly twice as much money at risk. That matters too.
  18. You can understand Henry being a little wary of big contracts after the ones he's signed over the last decade and how they've panned out.
  19. "As recently as mid-July", huh? You do realize that was before the season started?
  20. All I can really say is I'm confident that as long as Henry & Werner own the team, we will have one of the highest payrolls and we will not have mediocrity as a goal.
  21. You are so helpful.
  22. I disagree. I think it was the length and consequent risk of the contract that did it.
  23. Oh yeah, sure, we've all been talking about our playoff run this year.
  24. Such is life for Mariners fans.
  25. You actually raised one of the issues with signing only one-year deals. You might get traded every year!
