  1. What are you trying to say about Price vs. E-Rod? Note: E-Rod got the pro-rated portion of 8.3, not the 8.3.
  2. Jays #1 catcher Danny Jansen had 4 hits last night against the Yankees. It's the first time in franchise history that 2 Jays catchers have each had 4 hits in a series.
  3. I'd sign up right now for getting him and Sale both back in one of the J months. Obviously patching it together the first part of the season would be a challenge, but that's what we have Bloom for.
  4. Not really fair to cut his pay because of COVID-19.
  5. That's a possibility.
  6. The Tigers have been bad a long time. He was there for one of their more successful stretches. So maybe not his fault.
  7. The 2020 team would be marginally better. That's the only thing that can be said with any certainty.
  8. Well, you did use the word "now" in your post.
  9. Nobody said anything about Kopech, at least I certainly didn't. He was a highly rated prospect.
  10. But saying Allen is better than Kickham and Springs is like saying s*** with whipped cream on top tastes better than plain s***.
  11. Moncada did have a fine year in 2019. Now, if we're playing the farm builder Ben vs. farm destroyer DD game, it must be noted that Moncada was a guy that we only got because of the big checkbook of Mr. Henry. He cost $62 million, $31 million of which was a penalty, I believe.
  12. With the unlikely exception of Pomeranz.
  13. Exactly, it's just something to quibble about.
  14. Cole now looking like the guy they paid for.
  15. It's so close to the contracts for Happ and Morton that I don't know why we're even arguing about it. Happ and Morton did not get a guaranteed third year (but both deals included vesting options for third years), that's the only difference.
  16. I'm not sure there's a single player Dave traded who's having a good year in 2020.
  17. Larry, Larry...
  18. And last night, a 21-year rookie catcher for the Jays named Alejandro Kirk had 4 hits, including a home run and a double. They said on the telecast (not making this up) he was the first 21-year rookie catcher since 1936 to have 4 hits including a home run in a game. The other amazing thing is that all 4 hits came leading off innings, and the first 3 came in consecutive innings.
  19. Also in that game on Sunday, Chavis homered in consecutive at-bats in consecutive innings. What I really noticed, though, was that they both came on long at-bats. 6 pitches and 8 pitches for a total of 14. I wonder if that approaches a record for total pitches on home runs in consecutive at-bats? This is one that might not be answerable.
  20. There have been some unusual occurrences the last few days - strangely enough, the ones I noticed were all against the Yankees. "Houck is the eighth pitcher - and sixth* starter - since 1901 to throw as many as five innings while allowing two hits or fewer in his first two MLB starts. And he's the first pitcher in Red Sox history to achieve that feat."
  21. Nonetheless, I think if Bumgarner's numbers merit 85 million, Price's would be worth a little better than half that, age difference and all.
  22. It's just about the fact that Price had the same WAR in 100 fewer innings than Bumgarner. Obviously you can't generate any WAR if you don't pitch at all.
  23. I'm pretty cynical about a lot of things, but I'm not quite that cynical.
  24. Yes, anything above replacement level would put you ahead on the deal.
