  1. Let's go by the standard four we used in the fantasy league last year that apply to the two of 'em: OBP, TB, R, RBI. Maybe add games played and OPS+ for fairness?
  2. Wanna make a sig bet that Napoli outproduces Youk for 2013?
  3. Where did you get your numbers? Fangraphs has the three of them closer to 25 WAR for that season, which is friggin' insanity.
  4. Some people just need reasons to bitch. There's really very little possibility of failure with this deal.
  5. All time: Jim Thorpe Current: LBJ. All of this talk about hockey players is making my head spin. None of this hockey players exhibit such raw athleticism as Lebron.
  6. We'll see. Unless you're a doctor (and you're not) then your opinion is pretty close to meaningless. Every report out there explains why the possibility of ill effects from the condition for 2013 are close to none. Even worse, they'll probably handle him with the kid gloves. But hey, the know-it-all couch coaches know better than the doctors....... For the record, if he does succumb to the injury he cost merely 5 million for one year. Tell me again why people would "backpedal"? All that could be said is "they gambled, he got injured, they spent five million on him.....meh".
  7. Can't wait to see Napoli outmash every other 1B option in the market, and catch Lackey and inter-league games to boot. The backpedals about the signing will be epic.
  8. Because he's the best option available and keeping him on a one-year deal allows them to pursue other options down the road? Not rocket science. Also, where is it published that Napoli knew he had the condition? That contradicts every report i've seen that says the Red Sox were the ones to uncover it.
  9. Ben Cherington specifically noted that they'd be comfortable having Napoli catch on a part-time basis because he hasn't developed any symptoms from AVN yet.
  10. Well Jones is the guy that had been talked about for the past few posts. Unless it's a guy with his profile then it really doesn't make any sense.
  11. Digging a bit deeper, the 1942 Red Sox OF of Ted Williams (12.1 WAR), Dom Dimaggio (6.2 WAR) and Lou Finney (1.7 WAR) combined for an insane 20 WAR.
  12. Jones is a lefty 1B/OF. He makes more sense when you consider that not only can he spell Napoli at 1B (and they will rest him a lot) but he can also both play the OF and serve as insurance for the eventual Kalish injury. Quite simple, really.
  13. It does make sense if you take into account Kalish's inability to stay healthy.
  14. If you go specifically by WAR, the 1964 Minnesota Twins OF composed of Killebrew, Oliva and Hall actually match the 18.7 WAR amassed by the 1961 Yankee OF.
  15. What i meant was they already avoided arb with him and he's under contract so it's not like they're going to release him.
  16. And how else is anyone going to get Garret Jones if it isn't through a trade with the Pirates? He's under contract for 2013.
  17. And why is that? They could probably get more for him in a separate, stand-alone deal.
  18. It's not like Sean Casey and John Olerud were effective first basemen at the ML level, and there also aren't any guys who didn't have big power numbers in the Minors then developed in the Majors. No sir.
  19. Obviously nobody else would have.....that's why AFTER THE HIP PROBLEMS CAME TO LIGHT, the Rangers re-opened talks (as well as the Orioles) and offered more money than the Red Sox. The only reason he went to the Sox is because they offered more playing time.
  20. Yeah, it's a leverage thing.
  21. What don't you like about Garret Jones? Is it the career .852 OPS versus righties? Is it the fact that he's cost-controlled? Is it the positional flexibility?
  22. Also, the knock on Napoli has always been lack of mobility. I have never read or heard anyone badmouthing his game-calling, and his results with both the Angels and Texas prove that.
  23. I remember reading somewhere that Salty gives the worst target some scouts have ever seen. They can't explain why because Javy Lopez had a similar build but didn't suck so bad even though he had less mobility. Maddux refused to pitch to him though.
  24. The power will regress. Mark my words.
  25. Calling a spade a spade is not being spoiled. Salty sucks. And i'd bet dollars to doughnuts Reddick doesn't replicate his production next year, or ever again, honestly.
