  1. Cost. Because he's essentially a platoon player, he should cost much less than the other two.
  2. The Red Sox should really explore the possibility of trading for Garret Jones if the Napoli thing falls through, as others have mentioned.
  3. Fred is trying his best to make that happen though.
  4. People are so ready to give up Morales for a guy who really isn't a better player than Napoli and has suffered a lot of injuries. Morales is very important to this team given his ability to start and the lack of health of this rotation in the recent past. I don't see the fascination with Morse.
  5. The misunderstanding happened because you misused the term x-type deal. When you use that term you're talking about a contract with extremely similar years/ money attached to the contract you're using as a benchmark. They thought you were referring to a ten year deal for similar money, and rightfully so. They called you out on it, as they should have given Pedroia's age. What you meant was impossible to decipher given the choice of words.
  6. Did you make your own tinfoil hat, or did you buy it?
  7. SoxSport and common sense aren't on the best of terms sometimes
  8. All current sources have addedthrew term guaranteed, and that makes a world of difference.
  9. It only makes sense.
  10. That's why the article says one guaranteed year. Options are not guaranteed years
  11. Kinda hoping they start the year with Gomez just to piss off Fred.
  12. Absolutely no problems today on the laptop, tablet or phone.
  13. 404 errors and blank loads all over the place.
  14. Picking nits. I could dig up a bunch of other moves or non moves. The point had between made.
  15. Best user name ever.
  16. That's the point Fred. None of us know. But take the whining aside, and what do you think is more plausible, that they did or that they didn't?
  17. Building the rotation from within is exactly what they intends to do. Whether we like it or not is inconsequential since it's the right thing to do. Every team in the league who's been moderately successful the past couple of years has done exactly that. You have said several times how good of a GM Friedman is. Well, that's his model for building a winner.
  18. I agree with all of the above except Bauer, whose wildness and character issues made him a poor fit. Haren seemed like a match made in heaven regardless of what they saw in his physical because it was just a one year deal.
  19. My point is that if they're going to allocate resources for a trade it would be better spent on pitching since there are better stopgap options for 1B in the market. Also, Doubront really doesn't have to set a possible acquisition back.
  20. My God you're a wuss.
  21. Assuming Napoli signs: Ellsbury Victorino Pedroia Ortiz Napoli WMB Gomes/Kalish Catcher Drew
  22. Oakland has made a ton of mistakes over the years. The idea that they don't is asinine. How about trading Carlos Gonzales for Matt Holliday? Or basically giving away Nick Swisher because they thought they had their 1B of the future in Daric Barton, even though talent evaluators thought he wasn't going to hit enough for the position? How about letting Josh Willingham go only to have to trade for an OF who's certainly not going to hit as much in Chris Young even though they have other CF options? And this is my point about the risk, by the way. When teams don't spend big money, the mistakes don't appear as big as A-Rod's 10-year contract or the Crawford signing, but teams make a lot of mistakes year-in, year-out.
  23. It's ironic that you call me a moron when you can't understand the parameters of such a simple question. Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house moron. Every FO makes a ton of mistakes, which was the whole point of the question. Some are magnified because of the money involved, but mistakes are mistakes. Is it so hard to understand the context of such a simple inquiry?
  24. And how exactly do any of you know that trades for sp were not exploited? That's a ridiculous statement. Also, what's hard to understand about the offseason? They focused on plugging holes and creating positional flexibility without tying themselves up long term and without giving up picks. This was done so they could stick to that development approach bsn mentioned but that a700hitter clearly doesn't understand.
