  1. Why respond like a jerk? It's a legitimate question. You put up with it no questions asked when it's a superstar like Manny, but when it's a decent reliever like Aceves then the waters get a bit muddier, because the production/******** ratio isn't so clear cut. In response to OP, i agree with Bellhorn. All we can do is let Farrell be the one to determine if the pros are worth the cons.
  2. Do you have any proof of this or is this just a theory of yours? From all i've seen and heard, depending on the pitcher they'll spend most of ST working on off-speed stuff, no gradual adjustment, just like when prospects get sent to the winter leagues.
  3. Ironic coming from one of the biggest Homers on site. The qualities you admire you certainly lack.
  4. So it's not that the DR pitchers executed when need be, played with more heart, and the offense overcame the obvious blunders of the umpiring crew (the 1-1 called strike to Aybar will go down in infamy). The US just gave them the game. Right. What a s***** loser. For your viewing pleasure: http://d3fsqtc6sy2z27.cloudfront.net/uploads/d438cef038678d448eaca4f69236f2ac_large
  5. Ellsbury is not a 20 million a year player. He's fragile, and he's never again exhibited the kind of power he did in 2011. If the Red Sox are smart, then they'll let him walk and collect the pick.
  6. That's a dumb-ass comparison. Hanley was 22, not just turned 20, and he had over 140 games of experience at AA. Please please please do your research before spouting such nonsense.
  7. What is it with SoxSport and uninformed posts? I don't get it.
  8. Campfighter, we get it: You don't like the Classic.
  9. I'll take you up on your offer then. Thanks!
  10. I'll do it then, but how do i go about refunding your dues?
  11. I don't think i do. I feel it would be unfair to you. The only reason i didn't sign up on time is because i wasn't active on site.
  12. They could move Drew quite easily to a team like the Cardinals if Iglesias were to force their hand. The problem is that a small sample in ST is definitely not enough to do so.
  13. A comeback for the ages from the Dominicans today.
  14. For the record, i did not register waiting for the friend situation to play out. Didn't want to register a team then be an annoyance to anyone else making them wait for the 12th member.
  15. If it was unwise, what was the choice? That's the whole point. Do you risk further alienating the fanbase and being unable to replace his production? I don't think so.
  16. You're an idiot. This is made-up ********. Also, i have made my personal criticisms of the FO known on site. You had me on ignore, so you don't know what you're talking about. However, unlike you, i'm no extremist, because you find everything the FO does wrong, and enjoy being a constant source of negativity. Glass house, stones and all that.
  17. Fred, you are an idiot. Just look at the contract Texas gave Berkman and tell me they wouldn't have signed Ortiz. Also, there's one important thing lacking in YOUR DNA. The ability to use logic to form ideas.
  18. jung, Berkman's knees are shot. His problem may be worse than Ortiz'. You're avoiding that clear-as-day issue to stand firm on your hindsight-based stance. Stop it.
  19. Also, he can hit. There's that. Those memories have amassed a .981 OPS the last three years.
  20. Goddamnit i was about to post just that.
  21. Do you ever post something relevant? Honest question.
  22. Thome last 3 years: .905 OPS, no longer an everyday player. Ortiz last 3 years: .981 OPS, Boston stalwart and beloved by fans. Common sense please.
  23. What's ridiculous is to think they're not comparable. The vesting option is based on PA's, so it's easy to obtain if he's healthy, but that's the point. He's in worse shape than Ortiz, with chronic knee and shoulder problems, yet he still got a one-year guarantee plus a vesting option. You're being unreasonable in order to defend a position not worth defending. You just don't have a leg to stand on.
  24. You couldn't be more wrong. Look at the money Berkman got coming off a lost year from Texas. In fact, Texas is the team Ortiz would have signed with if not Boston imo.
  25. No it isn't. Ortiz wanted a two-year deal so they gave it to him so they could secure his services. Not only does this avoid him whining about the contract, it also avoids the possibility of him getting pissed and bolting. Someone else would surely have given him a two-year deal. Had that happened, the same people who are claiming giving him a one-year deal was "common sense" would be bitching about how the FO should have given him the two-year deal and be done with it, and complain about how cheap they are. That's the main problem of arguing with some of the posters on this site: Lack of a consistent thought process. People flip and flop their opinion to fit their need to whine.
