  1. Hello everyone. I'm trying to make a trip up to Fenway this upcoming weekend. I haven't been able to come yet this year and I'd like to come to Sunday's game on 8/4, or Saturday if I must. Does anyone have 3/4 tickets I could buy off them, or know somebody who may be interested in offloading a few tickets? Yes, I know about Stubhub and the likes, but I figured I'd see if any friends have tickets to sell first.
  2. How else can you explain the two contracts the Yankees have given him? One paying him like an elite SS when he wasn't elite defensively and there were several others better than him offensively, and the current one still paying him superstar money while his skills have declined.
  3. Done. I used to have one of Manny Ramirez pointing at Big Papi but I guess it's gone.
  4. What are we arguing here? I haven't taken a stance either way. Chill. I posted the numbers and tried to explain the logic behind them.
  5. I was sure to hop on the brilliant idea as early as I could.
  6. Pardon? I think you may be confusing me with another user, I'm only 21. I'm going to be a senior this year. Taking my sweet time before I hit the job market.
  7. Do you think intangibles have a dollar value? Because they sure made Derek Jeter a whole lot of money.
  8. I don't understand what you're getting at. The reason they try to create a scale for evaluation is that neither WAR nor the dollar value formula are perfect, and even less so when it comes to catchers, since they don't have a clear-cut way to evaluate their defense. With that in mind, Mauer could have actually been worth more (or less) in all three of those seasons than what their $ numbers say. Again, i'm not saying i personally think he's worth it ( my opinion is that no player is worth a 20 mill contract, but it's blatantly subjective) just trying to introduce the data to spark discussion.
  9. Not so bad, my friend. Couldn't do much longer without some friends to discuss the Red Sox with, so why not return now. Quite frankly I can probably could the players I'd give up any of our Top 10 prospects for at this point. It's not that I think they're just that good, it's more than I don't see us luring in any players that push us over the top in a trade, and it's just not worth it.
  10. Sox starters had a 3.97 ERA in July coming into this game.
  11. Well i'm assuming he'll produce enough value rest of year to partly overcome his injury riddled 2011. And i'd need to know your definition of "worth". I remember a writer on fangraphs pointing out that to assign a value to whether or not a player was "worth" a contract awarded to him, the production in dollars (per WAR) an assignment of a 10% standard deviation would be valid on a scaling basis. (As in, 10% less WAR $ than the value of contract would be "acceptable" with the scale rising from there). Then again, i am only presenting an interpretation of their data and don't have a specific opinion on the matter.
  12. What my post meant to say is that he's been worth his contract so far, per their valuations.
  13. Well i don't think people were really convinced Mauer's 2009 was anything more than an outlier. I personally thought something had clicked, but it looks like they were right in predicting he would turn back into what he's always been: A high average, high-OBP hitter with average power.
  14. Fangraphs has him pretty close at 21.2 million for 2012 and 21.3 million (so far) for 2013. So per their valuations, other than 2011, he's been worth his contract.
  15. He's not a DH though......yet.
  16. Cano probably canned Boras because of the promise of more money, not a desire to stay in pinstripes. Had that been the reason he fired Boras, he'd have already signed an extension.
  17. .885 OPS so far into his contract. He has a bad body type and will probably and suddenly decline, but in the meantime he is anything but a bust.
  18. It's almost impossible to find a scouting report projecting a guy as a 1 or 2 "without a doubt", but depending on the guy they will give a higher floor and higher ceiling. If you do a quick search for "scouting reports" for Webster, Barnes and Owens, the more current ones usually give Webster a #3, #4 floor with a #2 ceiling, Barnes a #3 floor with a #2 ceiling, and Owens a #3 floor with a #1 ceiling. What i can't find again are John Sickel's grade assignments for the three of them (or any other prospect for that matter) which were posted to over the monster. Sickels gives Barnes and Owens a B+ while Webster gets a B but makes the comment that the grade is liable to improve if he can improve his command a bit more.
  19. Werth looks like he's back to the guys he was in Philly, Rios has been around a 3-win player for his career with the White Sox, so he's not a black hole. Zito sucked, Howard was a stupid deal to begin with, Crawford was never going to live up to that contract, and Santana doesn't have the stuff or health anymore to be worth the money while Bay was a complete and utter bust as is A-Rod considering the time he has left and his injuries/PED drama. Upton, Hamilton and Pujols are the "we'll see guys" while Soriano was just "meh".
  20. Bats coming alive too. Carp needs to play more. If Pedroia comes out of his funk, we're in business.
  21. Skanks won, never thought i'd be happy about that.
  22. I get the impression that if Pujols can overcome his foot problem, that contract won't be so bad. Considering how painful plantar fascitis is, it's a surprise he's played at all this year let alone post half-decent numbers.
  23. How have you not been convicted yet?
  24. Can the mental masturbation stop now?
