  1. What if the Red Sox offered Ellsbury a really front-loaded contract? Maybe that's the best of both worlds for both parties.
  2. Who said they're reluctant to give Lavarnway a chance next season? It's November 18th. And if they were, it would be warranted, since he sucks at C.
  3. You can never discount the Yankees, but it's unlikely. They have too many holes.
  4. Funny, since Ellsbury was an extra pick.
  5. What would be a shock is the Marlins trading him. They have a ton of talent coming up the pipelines and control of Stanton for a couple more years. They should be able to contend before they have to trade him.
  6. He's also got old player skills and is a prime candidate for sudden regression.
  7. Choo has a better offensive skillset than Ellsbury, but is several notches below him defensively. He's looking for Werth money and will probably get it, so no thanks.
  8. This post is an enormous amount of ******** you are making up in order to validate your own "me vs. the world" approach to this argument. You don't know the exact thought process anyone here has used to reach their conclusions on Ellsbury other than your own. To put it simply, you should be using Occam's razor if you want to do some "guesswork" on people's thought processes. You are twisting what everyone has said into an argument that doesn't exist. Talksox: "I'd like Ellsbury back, but only at market value, since there are concerns about his skillset declining and his durability. I'd go as high as 5/90-100 to retain him since he was an integral part of two WS teams and has elite speed." Dojji: "You all hate Ellsbury and the Sox should pay out the ass to retain him, because no matter how many examples of players with his same skillset declining quickly are brought up, i need to be on the other side of the argument just to prove a point". Can you see the silliness of what you're doing here Dojji?
  9. So what you're saying is that the whole point of your argument is to be mr. contrarian? I'm flabbergasted.
  10. Ruiz, Napoli and Hart yes. No on Mujica and Grandy if possible.
  11. Yeah but for WMB to take on that hybrid role, Stephen Drew would have to be retained. Otherwise, it looks like Corey Hart on a pillow contract could really fix the Sox' 1B situation were Napoli to leave.
  12. Like seriously? I explained that the "minimalist" part refers to not going after guys who've been offered qualifying offers. Further down the thread i've provided options where the Sox only sign cheap FA's, and where they avoid FA's altogether. Please read through the thread before commenting.
  13. Dojji, that's not the question i asked. The question is what course should the Red Sox take if they're not confident with their internal options.
  14. Fred, this is a message board. When you give out opinions, they are bound to be challenged. Instead of going all nuclear, you could try continuing the argument without being a baby about it. If you took exception to anything i said, that's on you. This s*** ain't personal unless you make it personal. Behave like an older adult, which you are, and let's keep this to baseball. Enjoy the rest of your night.
  15. So who would be your solution? @Dojji
  16. Again, the caveat is "if the Sox don't feel comfortable with their internal options".
  17. Could he play 1B at the ML level though? Or would Gomes break out the 1B mitt with Hassan in LF?
  18. Carp would probably be platooned with a RHH. Lavarnway with Ross catching?
  19. It's actually becoming more and more likely if reports are to be believed. It seems that no one's actually willing to break the bank on Ellsbury, and no one should be.
  20. Back to baseball: If the Sox lose out on all of the big ticket FA catchers and don't feel comfortable with their internal options, is Dioner Navarro worth looking at as an alternative to Ryan Hanigan?
  21. How about an off-season scenario where the Sox completely steer clear of the FA market and graduate JBJ, XB, Vasquez, keep Berry and turn WMB into an IF Util-type player (who couldn't play SS unfortunately). They'd round out the BP with MiLB guys who are on the verge of making the Majors (Britton and Webster for example joining a returning Miller and Workman). How many games would that team win?
  22. Me? I don't know anything. What i don't do is pretend i'm some kind of scout over the internet. I'll trust the people who do this for a living thank you very much. Fred, it's the middle of November with the team fresh off a WS win and you're already whining like a 15-year old girl who didn't get tickets to a Justin Bieber concert. You should still be celebrating the WS win imo.
  23. This is absolutely perplexing to me. The two rookies who are considered by most talent evaluators and sportswriters, and well, everyone, to be ready for the show are JBJ and XB. The stable of MiLB catchers either have serious flaws (Lavarnway is an awful catcher and hasn't proven anything, while Butler profiles as a backup) or need more seasoning per basically anyone's account (soxprospects is a homer site, and has Vasquez mid-2014 and Swihart 2016). However, Dojji wants no part of handing JBJ CF, yet would be comfortable handing the most important position on the diamond to a player who's either not good enough, needs more rep, or isn't even ready for the show). I just don't get it.
  24. Dojji, have you been reading off-season rumors at all? On the Ruiz point: At least four teams are pursuing him, with two teams (COL and PHI) already throwing out multi-year offers. On the "if we knew the Sox were actively looking for a veteran catcher": It's well known they are suitors for both Ruiz and McCann. This is common knowledge.
  25. The Phillies offered Ruiz 2/20. Lavarnway is not a good defensive catcher, Butler profiles as a backup, and Vasquez/Swihart need at least another year in the minors. That "damn seasoning" Lucchino keeps talking about comes from the scouting and statistical analysis from an organization who knows a hell of a lot more about these prospects (or prospects in general) than any of us do.
