If you don't think a .372 BABIP was a mirage for a guy who K's a ton, doesn't make above average contact inside or outside the zone, and whose LD% was significantly higher than his average % from years past, well then i've got a bridge to sell you.
Actually Tampa is giving up a pretty decent prospect and they're eating a large chunk of Heath Bell's (ewwww) salary who they are receiving in the deal.
No it isn't. Vasquez/Swihart are the catchers of the future. A catcher on a short deal is what they needed. even though Hanigan is clearly a better catcher.
No it doesn't. It takes five minutes to look up the heaps of praise former teammates pour upon AJ. He is hated by other teams, but he's loved by his teammates. He also came highly recommended by both David Ortiz and Juan Nieves.
It's not that i'm thrilled about the move, it's that saying "oh, we're taking a step backwards towards 2012" makes no sense. They know what they're doing.
For the record, AJ refers to David Ortiz as "one of his best friends in all of baseball" in an interview about his opinions on the unwritten rules of baseball on mlb.com. It's a good listen.
You know who else wasn't very well liked? Shane Victorino. He had the same "teammates like him, opponents hate him" reputation as AJ *******, and look how that turned out. I don't particularly like the signing because he has poor On-base abilities, but making such a big buzz about your "perception of the guy" because you clearly dislike him is a bit extreme. This is the same FO that just built a WS winner by signing high-character, chemistry-first guys. They know what they're doing.
Who cares if opposing players hate him as long as players on his own team don't? A simple google search shows me about a gazillion articles saying the same thing "Hated by opponents, loved by teammates" but you picked out the two or three that shed the guy in a negative light. Stop.
Why are either of your surprised? They were clearly going to have to overpay in money in order to keep it to one-year. It's exactly what they did last offseason.
....in 200+ IP. That's not #2 on most teams, that's a #1 on most teams. Baltimore, Minny, Milwaukee, Colorado, Florida, Toronto, and i may be missing some.
Who said Bailey's getting tendered? If anything, he's viewed as a non-tender candidate. As for Dempster, no one yet knows what's going to happen to him. What's with you people and the leaps of faith when trying to make points?
