  1. Yeah yeah i know. I keep trying to make my point about "something" i think is dumb without insulting the person who said it, which is obviously either not coming out the way i want it to or it's just stupidly said. I'll say it's number two and call it a day. I'll keep an eye out for pulling that s*** off from now on and i clearly deserve to be scolded whenever i do (BAD UN?, BAD UN? would suffice). The only issue i have with your post is that i'm clearly your favorite person on this site. As for the baseball part of your post, i mostly agree but the truth is that people who think this contract will be a long-term albatross have a lot of evidence backing up their claims. For every 5+ year contract awarded in MLB, 3 out of every 5 are busts (estimate) and it's even worse for players after 30.
  2. For the record Fred, most of this is chain-jerking. I'm sorry, i just can't help myself because you get agitated so easily. I'll stop f***ing with you man.
  3. On topic: Ellsbury received a no-trade clause in his deal, but the famous option year has not been agreed upon yet (per Jayson Stark). There are conflicting reports on this, since Tim Brown says it's a 16 million dollar team option with a 5 million buyout.
  4. So apparently the Mariners are honestly trying to make a move for Cano, and if they sign him, would be willing to trade Taijuan Walker for David Price. I mean, talk is cheap, but what if they're being real about it?
  5. Fred, i do practice what i preach, and i obviously meant what i said. The whole point of my post (which you probably didn't read) was that neither are the Sox frugal nor do we want them to be. But nice try. On the whole "ooh ooh i predicted where Ellsbury was going to land" thing, i'm just yanking your chain. I couldn't give two shits either way. Bad post.
  6. Always here to help. However, let me pose the following question: What if someone offers something stupid to Napoli and the Sox would have to match a 5/80 offer to secure his services? Would you be ok with them overpaying in this instance when they could possibly get more production out of Hart for a tenth of the price and a fifth of the years? Because that's what members of the board talk about when they say "don't overpay". They overpaid for Victorino, Dempster, and Napoli last year so they could get them all on shorter deals, but there comes a point where "overpaying" becomes "being stupid" and that's what they should avoid. Also, letting the "youth carry us" seems to be working quite well for the Cardinals, Rays, A's, Baltimore, Pirates, Braves and Reds. Maybe it's a good model to follow when you also have the resources to dip into the FA pool when needed and secure your own talent like some of these teams can't do? To clarify (because i see that my post was very poorly worded and the dick accusation is warranted in this case) what i meant in my initial post was that it wouldn't make sense for fans of a team that has a 160 million payroll to be frugal, and that people here (and Red Sox fans in general) don't want them to refrain from spending money, but rather from spending money stupidly.
  7. This is not a good thing. All it does is annoy people.
  8. No you didn't Fred. No you didn't. Also notice how i didn't include myself in the above quote, since all i said was "you can never count out the Yankees, but i doubt they'll sign him". Again Fred, your reading comprehension needs some work.
  9. I can find at least 5-6 more posters who predicted Ellsbury would end up with the Yanks, and most of us acknowledged the possibility saying "you can never count out the Yankees". No one was surprised when he signed with them either. You didn't reinvent the wheel here.
  10. You clearly don't know how WAR works. Please stop spouting nonsense and misconceptions.
  11. This is one of the dumbest thing i have ever read. How can they be "frugal" when they're guaranteed to enter the season with a 160+ million payroll? Even worse, they're not even done with their off-season signings, and what people are saying here is not "don't pay good Free agents" but rather "don't sign players to stupid contracts" which is exactly what the Yanks just did with Ellsbury.
  12. The whole "traitor" crap is stupid. He owes the Red Sox nothing. Players have the ability (and right) to sign with whoever they want. Also, per your valuation on JBJ, i'm glad you're not scouting for the Sox, since you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
  13. This is the best first post i've read on probably any message board. Well done.
  14. Are you seriously trying to compare the samples of Ross and Salty for last year? That's an exercise in futility
  15. We're talking durability here. He can't produce if he's not playing.
  16. Do i need to dig up posts of you saying the exact opposite thing regarding Ellsbury's "injury prone" label? Jesus, you are an insufferable homer sometimes.
  17. There's a possibility that they signed Ellsbury because they're gearing up to let Cano depart, but i highly doubt it.
  18. It's not the spelling mistakes. Those i can tolerate. The text speak, lack of spacing after punctuation and general lack of coherence, not so much.
  19. Considering the way he spells and the way you spell, plus your complete and utter lack of logical thinking ability, it's pretty clear who's the idiot between the two of you.
  20. Overpaid is the understatement of the century.
  21. And all things considered, that's unlikely to be a very good rotation in 2013. Sabathia's declining, Kuroda is ancient and was awful to close out 2013, Tanaka will be adjusting to a new league, and NYS to boot, and the other two are meh.
  22. Not that it really matters, since the Sox won the WS last year with a much smaller payroll than the NYY and LAD, but i digress.
  23. Actually it is. What are you even talking about?
