  1. Whether you like him or not is unimportant when confronted with the facts: He's young, durable, and has been trending upwards statistically for several years. That being said, the overpay part seems correct. Too much money.
  2. The Jays? They have even less pitching depth and just as many question marks as the Sox, specially with Stroman out for the year.
  3. I hear you on the hair, even though I'm a lot younger than you. High-stress work takes its toll.
  4. I am pretty sure I read an analysis on umpire strike zones a while back, but for the life of me, can't remember when or where.
  5. It's a joke Fred. A joke about your face being wrinklier than Henry's, hence the irony of you calling him pruneface.
  6. Nice quote, but not applicable, considering how goddamn white YOTN is.
  7. I have been meaning to say this for a while, but have refrained in order to avoid creating a hostile situation with the resident old curmudgeon.
  8. Shut up and Windex bitch.
  9. I'll be here all night.
  10. I'm the Carlos Mencia of Talksox. A fat wetback riding somebody else's talent to fame.
  11. So you have never dissapointed anyone YOTN.
  12. This ain't even gold, it's platinum
  13. The Padres just traded for Craig Kimbrel......holy crap!
  14. What the actual f***? (Take some pictures and email them to me BTR)
  15. What are you even talking about? The general idea that Hanigan may somewhat rebound because there's a logical explanation to his problems the last two years isn't an "excuse", it's trying to predict what he may or may not be able to do. Breathe, this isn't an attack on your character.
  16. That's a moot point, because the Red Sox don't care either way, per their very well-known organizational philosophy, which is the point.
  17. That doesn't even make sense.
  18. It is very rare that a catcher call a ballgame nowadays. It is mostly called from the dugout
  19. The fact that you don't "agree with it" doesn't make it any less true. Luck on balls in play can vary extremely over a sample as small as 500 at bats. It indicates very little.
  20. No. Not at all. While not nothing, 500 AB's aren't indicative of a definite trend from a player. A better point would be to look at Hanigan's age and posit that perhaps his ability to hit the ball the other way with authority has eroded. In a time where pull hitters are getting shifted to death (the death of their batting averages), fringe offensive performers like Hanigan are receiving the true brunt of the advances of defense. The batting eye is there, but you need to be able to make hard contact the other way to sustain a decent batting average/obp in the big leagues if you don't have power or speed.
  21. Remember Johan Santana? Phil Hughes? Matt Moore? (now injured), Price didn't have that much BP time, but he pitched in the BP for Tampa's 2008 playoff drive, Adam Wainwright, Fausto Carmona (before he became Roberto Hernandez and sucked) along with, of course, Sale and Max Scherzer, who was also used in relief for about half his rookie appearances. Even if you don't use the "rotation headliner" tag, a bunch of succesful starting pitchers pitched out of the BP before moving to the rotation with no ill effects, which was the point of the post.
  22. Ruin? What? Most of the guys you see headlining starting rotations right now got their start by acclimating in the big leagues from the BP. It's a philosophy that has paid huge dividends to teams like Tampa and the Chicago White Sox.
  23. The man is a strawman specialist.
  24. The name of the game is keeping the ball in the yard and the runners off the bases. To achieve those two outcomes, which is more important? The ability to shut down the running game, or the ability to earn extra strikes and keep hitters behind in the count? We're not reinventing the wheel here. Also (hilariously I might add) the point about pitch framing being significantly dependent on the pitcher also applies (probably even more so) to shutting down the running game. One of the reasons teams run almost at will on the Sox isn't the catcher's arm or lack thereof, it's an organizational mandate on focusing on the hitter instead of the runner. No matter how good Vasquez' arm was (and it's a good one) the Sox' staff overall lack of interest in baserunners was going to impact his CS%, and other team's willingness to run on him.
  25. David Ortiz just posted this on his FB page, and it's everythinng......
