  1. I just don't see the big deal. Buchholz is the elder statesman of the bunch, and a life-long Red Sock. Also, people need to remember that on the rare occasions that Buchholz is 100% physically, he is a lights-out pitcher.
  2. "Overplaying" is putting it lightly. Hanigan is essentially Vasquez without upside. They acquired him specifically because he was around Vasquez' level defensively, that is a fact. a700 loves to create an argument (usually flawed mind you) out of thin air.
  3. You choose to see it as a travesty, I don't. Mostly because I hate hate hate hate long-term deals for pitchers over 30. They usually end in disaster. I thought Lester may be the exception because of how durable he's been and he knows the AL East and all that jazz. Now it's ST and he's already had "arm fatigue" which is usually the "minor injury" that ends up blowing up into shoulder issues, decreased velocity, etc. It may indeed be something minor, but I'm reminded of just how fragile pitchers are, and how often these contracts suck. Besides, he's gone. You can whine about it until you're blue in the face, but what's done is done.
  4. Friday and Saturday are no-go's for me, unless it is very early.
  5. Not that I lend any credence to batting average (getting on base is way more important) but it's nearly impossible to maintain a BA that low while hitting so many line drives. Easy over.
  6. 1,320 PA's are a way better indicator of actual talent/performance level than the less than half those PA's he has seen the last two years, and don't even get me started on his terrible BABIP luck even though he's been pretty good at hitting line drives. That is an anomaly. And CS% numbers tend to vary wildly from year to year, so that's not really a big concern unless it actually happens during the season IMO. It has a lot to do with pitching staff philosophy as well. The Rays has a young staff last year that was not very adept at holding the running game, with Hellickson and Archer being particularly terrible if I recall correctly. Not that the Sox staff will help very much in that regard mind you.
  7. No one here is saying .150 and .230 are the same. And Hanigan is a .256 career hitter, mind you. The problem is that you're vastly overstating just how important the difference between "suck" and "more suck" is from the 9-hole. Also, Hanigan is a fantastic defensive catcher in his own right.
  8. You're kinda overstating the overall impact Vasquez was going to have on this team in 2015. And let's face it, no matter how much anyone likes the guy, he was likely keeping the seat warm for Swihart either way.
  9. Buchholz has absolutely nothing to do with the decision to let Lester go. You and Dojji are grasping at straws here.
  10. Now that the Sox have lost the offensive juggernaut that is Christian Vasquez, I must update my prediction of the Sox' overall 2015 record: It is now -5/162, because they suck so bad.
  11. One of those rare ocassions when you acttually make perfect sense.
  12. I will agree with him on the fact that Buchholz' ******** is maddening. I am not a proponent of calling players "pussies" or "soft" or whatever, because baseball is a hard sport where players spend several hours per game doing movements their bodies aren't supposed to do, but goddamn Clay, grow a pair.
  13. I don't even know how he comes up with this stuff.
  14. I understand, it just doesn't make sense.
  15. Ellsbury is grossly overpaid, his numbers weren't that good even with the move to that launching pad, and he's ony getting older. How was not re-signing him a mistake again? Not only that, but we have Betts patrolling CF, who will likely be a better player than Ellsbury as soon as this year, and JBJ could still bounce back. That's what I don't understand about you. You s*** all over guys with legitimate major league upside, then you're beside yourself offering optimism for guys who aren't even marginal MLB talents, like, well, Che-Hsuan Lin. Some consistency would be appreciated.
  16. Why do you read so much into this? They chose him because he's the elder statesman of the rotation, and he's a lifelong Red Sock. The problem with Buchholz is that he can't be functional unless he's completely, 100% healthy. If he is, he's lights out, but that's nearly impossible to sustain during the grind of a baseball season.
  17. No, the idea of drafting the best available talent is perfectly fine. Teams run into "the little problem" we have, because it's literally impossible to have good depth at every possible position. Notice the "good" part. By trading the best available player every round you give yourself the opportunity to use the depth you've built to cover holes in your roster.
  18. Craig will play, because two of the three OF pieces (Hanley, Victorino) are injury prone, and Napoli is coming off major surgery, and they will probably handle him with care.
  19. One of the weird instances where we agree, meaning it's one of the weird instances where you're actually right.
  20. How exactly is 2B a more important defensive position than CF? CF is the captain of the OF, and the player expected to cover the most ground. A 2b is usually a guy who didn't have the range to play SS. You're making this stuff up on the fly here. Also, Palodios is absolutely right. If healthy, Pedroia is a near-lock to be a way above average 2B. He doesn't need to be MVP, but a healthy Pedroia in 2B and Betts in CF is the best configuration the Sox can put out there. You're just spitballin' here.
  21. Seriously, is this happening or not?
  22. For the record, the fundamental flaw in Dojji's thinking (and it's a very big one at that) is assuming that an above-average CF (which Betts can absolutely be) is not as valuable as an above-average 2B. That's every type of wrong possible.
  23. I like you. I like that "common sense" thing you like to throw out there on almost all of your posts.
