  1. Nearly 100 years ago the Boston Red Sox who were at that time one of the best teams in baseball sold their best player Babe Ruth to New York because their owner needed the money. Now a hundred years later in eerily similar circumstances, the Red Sox traded their best player to the former Brooklyn Dodgers. Will history repeat itself further? Will Boston now suffer the curse of the Mookster!
  2. Verdugo could be one encounter with the right field wall or one sliding catch away from a long stretch on the injured list. I think there is a good chance we will see Castillo in the outfield after all.
  3. And making a ton of money in the process. His investment in the Red Sox has appreciated 400%..
  4. Betts purported salary demands basically puts any team that would sign him in danger of exceeding the lux tax if they wish to have the supporting cast to field a competitive team. Sign him now or later it doesn't matter. At a likely 35+ million per year represents a nearly plus 15% of the salary cap invested in one player. Any team must realize that with Betts you will likely exceed the lux tax if you wish to be competetive.
  5. I also believe that Henry disrespected his fans by allowing this travesty. I said months ago that they depreciated Price's market. They basically gave him away which is fine but let's not delude ourselves. This was a salary dump pure and simple. They have raised the white flag on this season.
  6. Sort of reminds me of Irsay's midnight escape from Baltimore
  7. What is the over under on when Verdugo goes on the injured list? Data shows that once a player goes on the injured list the chances increase that he will go on the injured list again. I am guessing that Verdugo will probably spend significant time injured even if he passes this physical. This trade was a salary dump nothing more.
  8. Well the good news is it will be a heck of a lot easier to get good seats. Bad news for Ace Ticket .
  9. Oh my aching back! I hope he doesn't spend too much time on the dl or whatever they call it now.
  10. Caucas results are first. Still waiting for MLB investigation, manager, and Betts.
  11. Manager? Betts? MLB investigation? Or,Caucus results?
  12. I used know a guy named Socrates who owned a pizzeria back in my home town in Massachusetts who was a big Sox fan.
  13. You don't know what you don't know. Sometimes you don't know what you do know. And other times you only know it when you see it.
  14. True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.
  15. Where are the mods? Given the confusion shouldn't the mods have stepped in to cleaned it up?
  16. You are correct. Compensatory draft picks may be traded, all others no. My bad!
  17. Didn't realize you were so thin skinned. I am sorry that I offended you.
  18. Thank you Captain Obvious!
  19. I am not a Rob Bradford fan mainly because he has been an unofficial PR man for the FO. But one thing I can not criticize him for is his lack of sources within the FO. If anything I presume that Bradford's post is reflection of the FO's desire to lower expectations as to the quality of player Boston is expected to receive from. any trade. The word "realistically" to me is the give away.
  20. While I would hate to see Mookie in another uniform anything over 7 years is too long IMO. I would however offer him an annual salary that would make him the highest paid player per year over that time.
  21. Weei at 3:55 posted the following: "Sources familiar with the situation tell WEEI.COM Rob Bradford however that the players involved aren't currently realistically the package the Sox would get in return for Betts". The above post was about 2 hrs after Gammons post which predicted that the Boston to LA deal for Betts was inevitable and listed several players including Verdugo. I will leave to others to decipher Bradford's comments. I surmise we will know the actual trade details if any in due time.
  22. Mookie didn't miss the last two months of the season with a back injury. Mookie hasn't been quoted in the last month talking about the problems associated with his back injury. But Verdugo has.
  23. If it is Verdugo and he goes on the DL, the bloom will soon go off that rose and he will be just another whiz kid who wilted in the Hub.
