Look after I retired from the U. S. Dept of State, I served as Director of a county DSS. For 17 years, I headed the agency that investigated child abuse. We investigated 1700 cases per year. Together with the State's Attorney and County Sheriff I built the County 's Child Advocacy Center which was nationally accredited. Child Advocacy Centers are staffed by DSS forensic social workers, deputy sheriff criminal investigators and prosecuting attorneys. These are the entities that investigate child sexual abuse. I myself have testified in court numerous times during my career on such cases.the last in 2008. The first time was in 1974 on a serial sex abuser when I was a juvenile probation officer when I worked for Middlesex County in Massachusetts. I even testified In foreign courts in Argentina and Kuwait when I served as the American Consul. So I think I can speak from considerable experience. You have no evidence that Clemens committed any criminal offense. What you do have is your opinion based on supposition. None of which would be sufficient in my opinion to even begin an investigation by an agency such as the one I headed. BTW I was sued in federal court in my official capacity as DSS Director because my agency began an abuse investigation in which we later found insufficient evidence. After 6 years of litigation in which I was represented by Maryland's Attorney General, we won that case in 2014. If I hadn't been represented by the Attorney Generals office my legal fees would have probably run into 6 figures. BTW some one posted that Clemens lied before Congress. There is only one problem with that claim. Clemens was acquited by jury on those charges in 2012. I get that you do not like Clemens but your charges against him are nothing but slanderous conjecture because you have NO PROOF.

This an editorial by the Lowell Sun so it represents the opinion of the editor. It mentions that Boston sports radio has discussed it as well. While the Sun may not the circulation of the Globe, Boston sports radio does. This could get interesting if the story gets any traction especially if any other behavioral or judgment issues arise.

Both the Marlins and Pirates have teams that are so broken that it will take years to rebuild. Ben Cherrington for example stepped into a mess in Pittsburgh. He has taken steps to return that franchise to respectability after the 2019 clubhouse infighting.

I think some of the scouting reports mention that Verdugo may have "maturity" issues. I just wonder how he will hold up under the pressure of playing in Boston. I have made no bones about my doubts about this trade. However, even those in favor of the trade must recognize the tremendous pressure that Verdugo will be under replacing a fan favorite such as Betts in Boston. LA fans may love their Dodgers but they simply aren't as rabid as Red Sox fans. It will be more than interesting to see if this kid can handle it. Remember accomplished veterans such as Carl Crawford wilted under the pressure of playing in Fenway.

You are correct. Plus it was the way Price challenged Hall of Famer Eckersley. Moreover the Boston sports media dumped all over Price.

BTW what you are alleging is statutory rape not child abuse. In most States Child Abuse means the alleged abuser must be either be a caregiver or in a position of authority over the victim such as a teacher or a coach.

I still wouldn't go around calling someone a child molester without either prima facia evidence or formal adjudication in a court of law anymore than I would call a public figure who owns one of the leading liberal news publications in the east a Nazi unless I had a very prominent and skilled trial lawyer on retainer.

You had no proof no convictions. It was libelous slander. If I were you I'd hope Clemens doesn't read this website or is not the litigious type.

Unless one has proof or the alleged accused had been convicted then such a charge on a public web site could be considered slander and libel.

By definition any deal would have been better because Boston would have been a better team with Betts with a better chance of contending. New York may look unbeatable now but s*** happens. The Red Sox looked unstoppable too this time last year until Manager Alfred E Neuman decided to screwup Spring Training. Things have been going down hill ever since.

They could done a similar deal at the trade deadline assuming the Sox weren't contending. I am philosophically opposed to giving up on the season the way they did. May the fans punish them accordingly.

Having just reread the scouting reports on the players the Sox picked up. There are many red flags. In summation, Bloom got hosed,. Moreover he failed to pick up a decent pitching prospect for Price. Like I said earlier in the year Henry devalued Price so much that they sox are paying him a s*** load of money not to pitch in Boston. This is deal Sox fans will come to loathe for years to come.

The reason he was unpopular was because his teammates believed he dogged it. He had phantom injuries and simply never gave it his best effort. I believe there once was a story alleging that during a game JD Drew was in the clubhouse picking out furniture while he was in the lineup.

Not sure what else you expected for one year of Betts, but a 23 year old JD Drew is a steal for that price. Better than a Drew who when he retired Jon Heyman called one of the most unpopular players in the game.

He was a 2 win player as a 23 year old in his first full season in the bigs. He had plus dWAR and plus oWAR. I think he'll be serviceable. So far, he's started like the beginning of JD Drew's career. Drew had some really great years sprinkled in an above average career. I'd take that all day in this type of trade. JD Drew never lived up to his potential. He treated himself to be as fragileas a China doll. If Verdugo is another JD Drew thanks but no thanks.

You misquoted me. I said Verdugo had 5 years of team control. I never said he'd be in the bigs for all 5 or with Boston for all 5. If I had to guess, I'd say he will be in MLB for all 5 years and do pretty well. I don't see it that way. Let's see who is right.

Once again you misquote some one. You presumed that Verdugo would be playing in Boston for five years. I think that is an assumption not supported by his record. So so players don't last that long on contending teams especially in the outfield at Fenway Park. Given his injury record I don't see him lasting two especially if he plays right field.

My.Lord are you being presumptive. There is hardly any guarantee.that Verdugo will anything but a so so player. Moreover there is even less guarantee that Downs will ever play an inning in the majors. The pressure is now on Bloom to deliver. Boston still needs pitching.
