  1. Needs change. They say haste makes waste for a reason. And Bloom got hosed
  2. It was well reported here that Baltimore was so needy that they wanted quantity to restock their system. That was their strategy.
  3. I said that about Price three or four months ago and these same posters were telling me I was wrong then. In Betts case however I think because he is arguably the best player in baseball not named Trout his value wouldn't have diminished. If Scott Boras rather then Chain Bloom had been negotiating the deal for Boston he would have done what Boras has always done and outwaited the other guys and got the better deal and got what he needed not what he got. Bloom got hosed by his former boss.
  4. So let us sacfrice today for a maybe next year. When you have the opportunity to win in baseball you take it because too much can happen that may prevent you from ever getting back.
  5. It is always too soon if you do not get what you want or need. Why is Scott Boras the best agent in baseball? Answer because he out waits everyone until he gets the best deal.
  6. The Orioles took quantity over quality for Machado because their franchise was destroyed because of years of neglect by their owner DeAngelos, not a comparable example. Moreover waiting would have allowed Boston to compete. In any case "act in haste repent in leisure"
  7. Don't make the trade until you get what you need.
  8. No they don't! Until they stupidly traded Betts this still was a solid team Moreover the new manager announced he was not going to repeat crooked Cora's brain dead move of not having his starters ready to pitch opening day.
  9. Simple solution Don't trade him until you get what you need. There was no reason for the haste. Bloom got hosed. The big city slickers from LA took Blooming Onion to the cleaners.
  10. The bottom line was the Sox traded their best player not for bona fide pitching prospect of prospects which they desperately need but for a morally challenged immature injury prone outfielder with poor judgment.
  11. No team in their right mind wants that clubhouse cancer Puig on their roster
  12. I agree. They were willing to gamble which means what they got for Betts was merely a cover. This was a salary dump pure and simple. The worst part of the deal is they didn't pick up a pitching prospect so now they have to hope that they can flip some one to obtain a legitimate pitching prospect. I think events will prove that the Betts Price trade was done in haste (they should have waited until at least after the sanctions were announced). Furthermore I believe Verdugo will prove to be injury prone and I will be surprised if he plays 100 games this year.
  13. Let set the record straight Kennedy didn't diagnose anything, he along with Jim Bowden merely expressed their "concern" about Verdugo because of hid history back injury. What is irrefutable is that subsequent events including the Red Sox acquisition of Polar demonstrate that the concern about Verdugo is more than justified.
  14. Congratulations on finding the article yourself see I knew you could do it. Of course I read the article. Now since you are so good at doing research I suggest you also do a little on back injuries and how difficult they are to diagnose. And how several doctors can read the same MRI and come up with different prognoses. How the prognosis is highly dependent on the patience's description of the pain and how this can be highly subjective. You will also find an article saying that low back pain experts have long understood that you simply cannot reliably diagnose low back pain with MRI or X-ray in isolation. And that premature MRIs are useless. Oh what the articles on back pain don't say but what my physician told me after my automobile accident which injured my back that micro tears in my back muscles may not bother me until several weeks even months after the accident.. Finally we have no idea what the doctor precise words to the Red Sox were about Verdugo's injury. For example we have no idea whether the medical staff gave the team blanket clearance which I doubt or whether it was qualified in some manner which is more likely.
  15. Find it yourself I am not your research asistant. It is easy to do.
  16. Spier just posted an article whose headline was about Red Sox concern over Verdugo's health led to them to sign Pilar. Looks like Bloom is already hedging his bets. Pardon the pun.
  17. I find it incredible that some people don't find it concerning that is taking Verdugo over 6 months to recover from a back injury that he suffered last August. Open your eyes people. This isn't a good sign.
  18. The difference is Kennedy and (others I might add including Jim Bowden )have an educated baseball opinion based on years of coaching, playing and managerial experience. Moreover Kennedy has been around the Dodgers a long time. I trust a considered baseball opinion which has some merit. So far Verdugo has done nothing I repeat nothing to allay those concerns. In fact that which has happened with Verdugo only serves to heighten the concern rather than allay them. But you can go own with your rosy optimism. If it makes you feel good.
  19. Let us see who is right. Those of us who believe Bloom got hosed on Verdugo because of a whole host of concerns or those who believe the Dodgers parted with a top prospect merely to obtain at least one year of Betts.
  20. This doesn't bode well IMO for the future. I can see Verdugo's back being a continuing issue. Kevin Kennedy on MLB radio had expressed concern about Verdugo for this reason. Like I said I think LA knew what they were doing in dumping Verdugo. I still say Bloom got hosed.
  21. For this reason I think Bloom would love to trade JBJ. It is also the reason JBJ hasn't been traded, he is too expensive for his offensive output. His defensive contribution I think is hard to quantify in monetary terms. Hence he remains a Red Sox for the time being.
  22. Pilar is by far the more cost effective player.
  23. No one hated to see Mookie leave more than me. However, from Mookie's perspective the trade to Los Angeles could be the best thing that ever happened to him. Not only is he an exceptional baseball talent but he also is an exceptionally nice guy with an infectious smile. He could easily take LA by storm. He certainly has the potential to become a super personality that transcends baseball a la what Magic Johnson did with basketball. I think LA affordsMookie an opportunity that he wouldn't have had in Boston simply because of LA's media culture. Moreover, I also think Mookie is savy enough to understand that.
