  1. Like I said it was an actuarial decision.
  2. I firmly believe the Red Sox decision to trade Sale was made after their consulted with their health insurance actuaries.
  3. Just finished watching their last ST game. After attending a bunch, the most notable take away from this ST was that there was nothing notable or exciting about this team. 75 wins and mediocrity is my judgment for the upcoming season.
  4. Cutter Crawford pitching batting practice to Braves slugger.
  5. Yet another dumpster dive signing
  6. I have now seen him pitch three times this spring. He has done well enough to deserve a chance at starting. Although not a knuckleballer, he reminds me a lot of Tim Wakefield in that he relies on movement to prevent hitters squaring up his pitches. I think he is at best a three inning or once through the lineup pitcher. It will be interesting to see how well he does.
  7. The value of the Red Sox franchise really has less to do with their on field record then the overall state of professional baseball in general and the Greater Boston economy in particular. As long as MLB thrives and the Massachusetts economy grows the Red Sox franchise will be a highly valued asset.
  8. It isn't only the land, the Red Sox are a cash cow. He is using Boston's cash flow and prestige as leverage to help attract investors in FSG to finance their expansion into other high cash flow ventures. From a purely entrepreneurally perspective He is running the Red Sox brilliantly.
  9. I lost interest in American Football years ago. I can not sit through a game. Truth is I find it intensely boring. Rugby Union and Rugby League are a whole other matter. The recently concluded Six Nations Series was tremendous. Every game was exciting. The NFL by comparison is like watching paint dry.
  10. And/or withhold our custom!
  11. Fans have no skin in the game other than their emotional attachment to the laundry. How ever the owners and players wish the divide the pie is really not my concern. I will make my decision whether to support a team, watch its telecasts, or attend it's games based on things I can control. If MLB wishes to price itself out of existence is not something I can control. If they make bad choices and go the way of horse racing and prize fighting two sports which were arguably once more popular than MLB, then I will just find other sports to follow. I think that is the way of the world. Life will go on.
  12. 75-87 without any major injuries. With injuries they could win less the 70
  13. I am with you. The Sox lose more than they win.
  14. The only thing wrong is you are a humorless twat, trying to pick a fight over a silly joke, one that has been told a thousand times without anyone doing anything but laugh.
  15. How far to East Millinocket? All the way Eh! Yup!
  16. Once again you prove you just don't get it! You really are humorless.
  17. Its a joke not an English grammar lesson. I have been telling it for at least sixty plus years. It comes from Bert and I, classic Maine humorists.
  18. No it's the subjunctive but the joke is pluperfect past subjunctive. But I was lazy and did not want to type the whole thing out on my phone.
  19. i It's best told with a Maine accent. Scrod being the subjunctive of "screwed"
  20. Speaking of the subjunctive, reminds me of the old joke about the teacher and librarian on the train from Bangor to Boston. The Librarian said she was on her way to Boston to get scrod. The Teacher asked if she was using the subjunctive. That's what is going to happen to Sox fans this year. We are getting scrod!
  21. The only positive thing about the NESN fiasco around the Orsillo firing is the guy who actually fired Orsillo was let go himself the following year. Henry's FSGs empire has a tendency to dispatch their scapegoats.
  22. To show how bad things are for the Red Sox at the gate, I just got tickets for behind home plate for Monday's game. Best seats I have gotten in more than 20 years and no premium.
  23. Given the current philosophy trending within the FSG, I would not put it past Breslow to trade Devers at some point during his tenure.
  24. My major takeaway from today's game is for NESN to ditch O'Brien and give Caron the job.
  25. What conjecture? FO personnel complained about DD's management style and Bloom's dilatory decision-making. And there certainly was not a deluge of applicants clamoring to be Henry's next CBO/Scapegoat.
